A Tinge Of Hope

Writer's point of view....

The bell ring and the once quiet class turned into a cacophony, some even screaming at the top of their lungs. Their maths teacher, Mr. Anderley stood up from his seat and gathered his things before leaving the class.

Anna gingerly stood up and headed out of the class in speed. She wanted to wait until everyone was out of the class but that would make her late so she took the courage to leave the class. She made it to Casey's side of the seat and next thing, she found herself falling. Casey had put her legs on the way which made Anna tripped. Because she was in a hurry she did not see the outstretched legs on time and when she did, it was too late. As she falls, the class rotates in slow motion. Those rushing out of the class stopped to see what would become of their class ugly duckling and those yelling stopped as well.

Casey, with a huge grin on her face, anticipated Anna's fall.

Michael, who had his head on the desk, suddenly stood up on impulse and without realizing what's happening, turned. As if he was in a trance, he stretched out his hands and pulled Anna to himself before she could make it to the floor. He landed on his seat and rolled over, landing on the ground with his head hitting the floor and Anna on top of him. Michael opened his eyes and look at the person who landed on his chest. It was Anna, looking confused and slightly dazed.

"Are you okay?" he asked, putting both of his hands on her hips so he could push her up.

Anna immediately helped herself up. She could not look at Micheal's face and that angered Michael. Murmuring began to fly left and right.

Casey's expression darkened and she glared at Anna, things did not go like she had planned. She wanted to humiliate Anna but otherwise happened.

Michael tried standing up but could not because his head was pounding.

He felt his head and came in contact with some liquid, he was bleeding.

"Why on earth will I get injured for her sake? She can't even say thank you. All she could do was stand there and mop at nothing."

He thought angrily as he tried again and started to get up. When Anna saw that he was struggling to stand up, she lent a hand to him but he pushed her aside and stood up. Anna staggered back and felt like crying.

A moment ago she felt someone could put his life in line for her. She felt a tinge of hope but it dashed away the moment Michael pushed her aside.

"No one will like you anyway because you ugly"

Her mind screamed at her.

"She thinks Micheal is her Prince charming. I wondered how someone like Michael will like someone like her"

A voice said and most of the students started laughing.

"I don't blame her. She is poor and finding the privilege to be here, she has forgotten that she can't be compared to any of us, talk more of getting close to any of us."

Casey said mockingly and the classmates erupted into another round of laughter.

Anna felt like dropping dead right there. She could not bear the murmuring and laughing anymore so she ran out of the classroom and went straight towards the restroom. When she reached she quickly turned around and closed the door behind her and locked herself in the small stall. After a while she let out a cry. Tears dripped down her cheeks. The feeling of pain and humiliation was overwhelming. Her body was shaking and she was about to collapse. Her breath was heavy and fast, trying to calm herself down. But all this effort ended in vain.

Anna cried, covering her face with her hands to hide her tears from the world. What has she done wrong? She should know why everyone is laughing at her, she is ugly and no doubt about it.

"We rich kids can be asshole sometimes but not everyone of us"

A voice said and Anna looked up with tears in her eyes. She did not know someone was in the restroom when she ran in.
