"What for?" Questioned Damien.
"Music!" Chorused Clara and Davids.
Davids looked at Clara with a frown, before they started to move the tables, Are you reading my mind now?"
Clara pushed a chair to create a platform that is enough for both of them, with her hand Kimbo she faced Davids,
"I saw the way you lightened the mood in class today, people could use it here and it can be a good opportunity to market the place,"
Davids sighed and nodded agreeing to her comment.
She was not sure whether this would attract customers but she was just throwing an idea and risking to make things happen. She wanted to prove to Damien that this place was beautiful and good for business.
"Clara, will you please leave him for a second, you have the whole night to have hands-on with each other," complained Davids. She didn't know what happened between them but they were too close like lover birds who have just met.
"Trust us on this babe," said Clara to Damien while pecking his lips.
Looking back at Davids, she knew she was trying to make things work and Clara also wanted the same for Damien. She opened her bag and removed a mini-piano while Davids removed her saxophone from its bag.
The customers around the restaurant were not many, but they just focused on eating their meals. The couples were having couple time having a conversation with each other, single people were busy on their phones while playing with their food.
"Hope this is the medicine, hope it sets the mood for these people to become lively." Davids thought before wiping the mouth of her saxophone.
They were in the middle of the room, a space for two tables, Clara looked at Davids and Davids looked back at her, didn't know which song to play to help set the mood.
Clara was being nervous, she wasn't ready for this, she didn't even know which songs to set the mood for the restaurant.
Davids was in her world, she had accompanied her parents to various fine dining restaurants, seen various things around them, their music, during the weekday it was mostly background music but on weekends, they had a live performance.
"Why do they sing only selected types especially Jazz and Classical dad?" Asked Davids when they once visited a restaurant in New York. She was seven.
"Because darling they are associated with sophistication and class plus they pay well." Replied her dad.
That night she thought of a way of playing jazz music. She worked hard at school and asked for a saxophone as a present. Her mother got her a small one to match her size. Her idea was to learn how t play and sing Jazz so that she can sing in the restaurant and get some cash. Though that did not happen because she was asked to help in the family business. But she always got to be invited to sing in her parent's ceremony and she was always excited.
"Davids, Davids," called Clara jolting her from her thoughts.
"Do you know born to the U.S.A?" Asked Davids in a worried tone.
"My dad played it a lot of time so yeah, I know it," replied Clara.
Davids nodded her head and brought the instrument to her mouth giving it one blow.
Everyone turned in their direction looking at them.
'Born to the U.S.A'was the first song that came into her mind because it was the same song she heard being played in most restaurants while she was you.
She was determined to make this work and she vowed to herself to make use of her effort than throwing them.
She was careful with the sounds and her pitch. Clara helped on the other side and they made a great team together.
The now gloomy restaurant saw the lively juncture, people nodding to their tune, couples clapping happily looking at them, their pictures were being taken as everyone cheered on them.
People were joining and coming in slow by slow. Damien winked at them at the restaurant door, before moving to the cashier station.
Truth be told, he didn't know what to expect of the two people who were sitting in the middle of the restaurant, he feared that they might mess up. Damien doesn't entrust people with roles he makes a point of doing everything on his own but entrusting Davids and Clara to make them get more money today was a risk he threw for himself.
The restaurant was now full, the space outside was also full and some people decided to stand up and dance to the tunes of the two musicians to give space for the others. Damien was happy that this day had counted.
The chaos of rushing up and down went in till twelve when they got a chance to settle down after other people have gone leaving the chefs and other assistants to help. Most of the food was eaten today giving room for little leftovers. Instead of letting his friends cheer up them, he handed them to the other staff members who thanked him. Damien did his calculation before they closed up the restaurant.
"Do you know you are a lier?" Frowned Clara while placing her backpack in her back.
"Why baby?" Asked Damien pretending not to know what he had done.
Damien knew that Clara was throwing a fuss gr not getting free food as they suggested. He wasn't going to give them leftovers, he had thought about that and he decided to give his household a calm to prepare a meal for both of them.
"We were supposed to get free food!" Cried Clara.
Davids chuckled and felt sorry for Damien. She knew how Clara loved food and this night she was not going to get any.
Damien just hugged her and let her into the vehicle that was waiting by.
