42: NO!

How is he doing?" Mr Black stood by a bedside trying to look careful at the person laying on the white sheets. Touching his wounds using the gives provided by the doctors. He shook his head as he turned him over accessing the wound on his posterior.

"Sir, this will take longer, even though these are excellent equipment we are employing it's gonna take a lot of time." Said the man in a white lab coat as he examined the body lying in the bed.

He moved closer to his eyes trying to open the eyelids to check how he was doing.

"Look," called the doctor at Mr Black.

"He lost a lot of blood, his body is weak even if we are going to do a blood transfusion, he is still in a coma and might take months for him to recover fully. Even after recovery, he will still undergo therapy to stabilise his legs and the right side of his chest. They are little paralysed." Warned the doctor.

Mr Black nodded his head and sent the doctor away leaving him alone with the man on the bed, tubes injected on every part of his body. His face was pale, he was a dead man only the oxygen helping him breathe in and out.

Mr Black sat on the seat next to the bed. It was high enough to enable him to look at the man closely. He grabbed the man's hand and looked at him.

"Brown," he called softly while brushing the man's hair back to allow him to see his face. "I wish you had told me about your problems, we have been friends, friends don't hide things from each other Brown!" He sniffled trying to hold back his tears from falling. "I always asked you if you are okay, but all you said is that you are okay but I knew you were never okay, you always went through troubles after troubles bro," cried Mr Black as he grasped the man's hand tightly.

He suddenly felt a movement, he felt his hand being squeezed! He shot his glance and look at the man on the bed, before looking at the hands.  Me Brown was holding his hands tight, with tears streaming from his eyes.

"Please talk to me Brown, talk to me," called Mr Black as he was shaking him. The monitor started to beat loudly but Brown kept squeezing his hands. He saw him mumble something but it was a faint whisper, he kept on mumbling until Black went near him to listen to what he was mumbling about but he couldn't hear clearly. MrVlack decided to hit the button near his bed to call a doctor who came in rushing towards them.

"Can you do something!" Shouted Mr Black.

The monitors were beeping loudly causing Mr Black to panic while trying to squeeze Brown's hand but Brown's grasp became weak, Mr Black looked at him as he let a smile pass across his face and he went to his normal state.

"This will help him sleep," said the doctor.

Me Black didn't want him to sleep. He wanted him to talk to him and tell him all his problems, he wanted him to tell him what went wrong between him and his wife that led to him being carelessly thrown in a hospital bed without any attention.

After some time, Mr Blacks covered Mr Brown and let him get some sleep before heading out of the house.

"Babe, you are here," said Vicky as she hugged her husband who looked tired.

"Sorry it took long, I didn't mean to overstay wherein was," said Mr Black as he inhaled into his wife's scent.

He was always at peace when he saw her and he loved every minute of it.

Vicky looked at him and smiled giving him a peck on his cheek.

"Come, dinner is ready, we were waiting for you," Vicky pulled him and guided him like a baby towards the dining table. Removing his coat, he made him sit at the head of the table before excusing herself. "Let me get our 'boy'"

Vicky knocked on Davids door but she didn't respond. She pushed it a little and found her busy with papers all over her room doing something with headsets on her ears.

She quietly sneaked behind her and removed the headsets from her eyes and Davids jolted up looking at her.

"Mum?" She asked. "Why are you sneaking up upon me?"

"Come on I've knocked for like ten minutes but you didn't respond." She replied trying to look at what her daughter was buying herself with.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to assume, I couldn't hear you and I was brisk," defended Davids.

"It's okay baby, I just came to tell you that supper is ready and your pop is here," said Vick as she placed the folders back to their original position before heading out.

Davids collected herself and followed her mum out of the door.

Come on down to the table, she saw her dad lost in his thoughts that he didn't notice them walk to their respective seats.

"Evening dad," said Davids as she kissed his dad on the cheeks.

"Evening son," he gave a pretended smile which Davids knew was not genuine.

They said grace and started eating their food. The room was awfully quiet with only the jazz music that was coming from the living room.

The music was accompanied by the clicking of forks and knives of the china dish wares.

Their silence was suddenly disrupted with a phone call from Mr Black's phone. Vicky wanted to intervene and warn him about the dining tables rules as she always does but she knew not today.

Mr Black quickly picked the phone and put it in his ears learning a scornful face from Davids.

She didn't know what's going on today with her dad. She has never seen them argue or fight as a couple. Though she knew that maybe sometimes they solve their problems and they don't show it.

"What!" Exclaimed her dad, "NO! NO! He was fine, he was fine!" Shouted his dad as threw the phone to the wall making it break into two.

"Babe, babe are you okay?" Vicky asked him while running to his side.

Hugging him, Mr Black hugged him back tightly. He didn't want them seeing how weak he was, he wanted to be brave but Vicky rocked him and he couldn't hold it anymore. He broke in front of them, giving Davids chills and worry qt the same time. She didn't know why they were now both crying.

"Is it a couple of things to start crying when one of them is crying?" She asked herself before standing up and moving towards them.

Her dad was sitting on the ground, while her mother was holding him right while rocking him.

Davids brushed her mom's hair and asked her what the problem is.

She just shook her head and that was a cue for her to give them time.

Davids picked the utensils and took the to the kitchen. She cleaned the table and helped Anna wash the utensils.

"Did something happen yesterday?" Davids asked Ann.

"No sweetie, everything was okay yesterday, they even had their dinner at a restaurant and never came home," replied Ann while handing her a plate to wipe dry.

"Then why are they both crying?" Asked Davids.

Ann just looked at her and went on to wash the dishes. She knew that if she told Davids everything, she might lose her mind and rush to some places she doesn't want her to go to.

After arranging everything in order. Ann bid Davids good night and went to her room leaving Davids to prepare coffee for her parents. She had been doing that since she was right and knew how her parents loved their coffee.

Lifting the tray, she carefully strolled toward the living room and found her parent sitting on the sofa. With her dad laying his head on her mama's lap.

"Here is your coffee, dad, one sugar black without any cream mama, whipped cream, honey and some like to taste said Davids while placing the drinks on the coffee table.

Homer dad lifted himself and stretched his hand, picking the two mugs handing his wife one and sipping one.

Davids looked at them sipping their coffee slowly, as the steam blew past their faces.

" Daniella's dad passed away," mumbled Davids.

"Dad, are you okay?" Asked Davids as she leaned in to listen to what her dad was saying.

Vicky placed her hands on Mr Blacks thigh, " Daniella's dad passed away,"
