CHAPTER 30

After work, Josh went home and met

it empty. Even his wardrobe was

cleaned out as Linda's clothes that

were inside were gone. He took out

his mobile phone and called her but

Linda did not respond. A few minutes

later, he received a text message from

Linda that she can't pick up any calls

now because she's busy. Although it

felt awkward the way Linda left the

house, Josh wasn't really bothered

because has always been a person who

lived alone and loves his space.

 After Linda went to the hospital that

afternoon and saw what Josh was

doing, she got really pissed but how

could she have said it when they already

have an agreement? Linda felt that

Josh should have considered the fact

that she is pregnant and toned down

on his lifestyle. Seeing what was

happening that afternoon really made

Linda feel very bad and disrespected.

While she was walking out of the

hospital, she felt like everyone was

looking at her with pity because they

thought that she was Josh's wife and

everyone knows what he does with

women. She began to wonder if she

has not made the greatest mistake of

her life by deciding to have children

with him.

"What was I thinking when I decided

to have children with a womanizer? I

never thought that my children could

share from his genes. What have I done

to myself and my kids by choosing a

very wrong father for them? I was only

thinking of repaying his father for the

good he has done for me but I never

thought that there were other ways to

repay him than having children with

Josh. Oh God please I just have one

prayer, I don't want my children to tow

the line of their father." Linda kept asking

herself asking herself what to do and in

order to think with a clear head, she

decided to move to the place we rented

in town. she never gave Josh the

address of the apartment and she's

really grateful for that now.

After the lady who kidnapped Ama and

ripped her off of Fred's property released

her, she has been eagerly searching for

Fred's daughter. After a few days of

searching, she finally found who the girl

is and has been tailing her since then.

Although not much is known about the

girl because she's always protected but

Ama knows that if she doesn't relent

and kept tailing the girl, one of these

days, she will have her in her grasp.

"Hey little girl, I will follow you everywhere

you go because I need to get you as

collateral for what I've lost. Whoever

that lady who is fighting for you is, by

the time she realizes that I have you in

my grasp I guess she will be forced to

release what belongs to me." Lota has

always had this premonition that

someone is watching her which was

the same kind of feeling that she was

having back when they were still staying

at that hotel.

Ama visited her parents and her mum

was not happy to see her at all. Her father

was very happy to see her even though

he wasn't pleased with her when he

heard about her divorce from Fred as

her father has always felt that Fred was

a good man. Ama's mother could not

hide her displeasure when she saw her

daughter.

"What have you come to do here?

Aren't you ashamed of yourself? Despite

the fact that everyone in the neighborhood

knows that you stupidly allowed your

husband to use you for prostitution you

still have the guts to show your face here.

Why are you this wicked? Don't you have

any shame? I've always known that you

don't have the good of anybody at heart.

You and I know that your coming here

will be a hindrance to your sibling's

marriage because people will think that

we accept our daughter being a prostitute

and you know that one bad apple spoils

the rest."

 while she was busy heaping up blames

on their daughter, her husband kept

shouting at her to be quiet but she

refused. All the while that she was

talking, Ama was only smiling but what

made Ama angry was when her

mother turned to her siblings and

said "in case you don't get a decent

husband to marry tomorrow, this is

the person you should hold

responsible for that because thanks

to her shameless, this family will

never be respected wherever we go.

 Amaka stood and told her father

everything that happened to her

while she was married to Fred.

"Every time Fred gives this family

money, I pay for it with my body and

when mother came to visit us, I told

her everything that Fred was doing to

me and she told me that I should

endure it because that is where this

family gets money from. I cried and

was really sad when it occurred to me

that my mother does not care about

me and the only thing she cares about

is money. I turned to this woman

standing here who calls herself my

mother for shelter but she pushed me

back into the rain and told me to endure

the rain because the sun will rise again."

Amaka turned to her siblings and said I

am not the reason you will not get a

good husband to marry. It's your mother.

 Her mum denied all allegations leveled

against her as she called Amaka a liar

and they began to argue.

Amaka walked up to her dad and gave

him a tape. "Dad please let's watch this

tape and see who the betrayal truly is.

 Immediately Amaka's mother saw that

tape, she was alarmed as she knows

that this daughter of hers will go to any

lengths to destroy her. She ran to her

husband and attempted to collect tape

from him but she couldn't and that, really

got her husband curious as he wanted to

see what was on that tape. At first, her

husband thought that the tape

contained video footage of Amaka

telling her Mum of her predicaments.

But the way his wife launched as the

tape made him feel that there is more

to this whole matter than what these

two are arguing about.

When he slot in the tape, he thought that

the person he was seeing only looked

like his wife because he could never

bring himself to accept that that is

his wife.

 He was too shocked to speak and

even their children turned their faces

away from such a disgusting video of

their mother. She immediately went on

her knees and began to beg her husband

while crying. "Please, believe me, I did

not do that on purpose. I was forced by

Fred and your daughter. All of them

including these men forced me to do

things that I've been regretting till today

and wishing I had killed myself instead

of doing those things." She kept crying

and begging her husband but her

husband seemed not to be hearing her.

She looked towards Amaka and jumped

on her as she began to beat her up.

"You evil girl, you have finally ruined my

life. It would have been better if I

aborted your pregnancy instead of

bringing you into this world to destroy

me. When I had your pregnancy back

then, the doctor told me to abort it that

the child will not bring me joy but I

thought he was talking rubbish and I

kept you. If only I had listened to the

doctor who was a spiritualist and not

taken his words for granted, I would

have aborted you and saved myself.

My life wouldn't have been this ruined." 

 While she was beating Amaka, she got

even angrier that she began to bite her,

kick her, and even included blows.

Amaka escaped from her mother's

arms and ran outside with a bruised

face and a big smile on it. She was very

satisfied knowing that her mother's

life has been ruined the same way

she ruined hers.

 Amaka's mother ran back to her

husband and laid on the floor begging

him to forgive her that it wasn't her

fault. Her husband looked at her

disgustedly and said "did you just tell

me that you were forced to have sex

with these men? You are such a lame

liar. If it's true that you were forced, why

are you the one on top? Women who

are being forced to have sex do not

stay on top. They are usually the ones

under but look at you. I am so disgusted

right now that it's paining me that I have

been living in the same house and

sleeping on the same bed with you

all this while. The hand you even used

to touch those men has been used to

cook for us in this house. see how

professionally you are sucking on their

her husband finished speaking, he

took his car keys and walked out of

away from her.

 Josh tried calling Linda on her phone

again but her phone was powered off.

He was only worried because she is

pregnant and he has no idea of where

she is. He laughed at himself after

realizing that he does not know any

of Linda's family or her friends. After

realizing his mistake of not trying to

find out anything about the woman

who is having kids with him he, decided

to swallow his pride and go to the one

person who knows her and that person

is his father.

 When Josh arrived at his parent's

house, he was surprised to see his

mother in the house. He was very

grateful that he saw her first before she

saw him so he turned around and

wanted to sneak out when she called

his name and said, "where do you think

you are going?" Josh laughed nervously

and said "I'll be back. I don't think I

turned off the ignition of my car." Joshua,

have you forgotten that I am the mother

and you are the son? If you think for

one minute that you can outsmart me,

then you have to think again. Come in

here and Caroline will go check your

car for you. 

Just walked into the house like a

defeated child. His mother has always

had that power over him. Every time

she speaks to him, she makes him feel

like a child that she can control as she

pleases. Josh cannot imagine Linda

meeting his mother because he knows

that his mother will scare her away.

Sometimes he even wonders if his

mum had special training on behaving

like this. "Joshua I rushed back yesterday

when I heard that you have an unknown

lady living in your house. Why do you

and your father love to pick up strays?

Do you run a shelter for the homeless?"

Josh looked towards his father before

replying to his mother "I'm sorry mum,

but I don't know what you're talking

about because I don't have any strays

in my house. You know I've never liked

pets so I don't understand the strays

you're talking about."

"Joshua your life is my concern because

you are my only child and I will not sit

and watch my son be taken advantage

of by someone undeserving. The

Linda girl you have living in your house

is the one I'm talking about. So far,

what do you know about her? Do you

even know that her last fiance died? Do

you also want to die?" While she was

busy questioning her son like a detective,

her husband called her name to make

her stop but she looked at him sternly

and said, "do not get me angry because I

am trying to be calm. for many years I

have tried and now you have introduced

your son to your low-life ways. Joshua,

you know that Cherry has been waiting

for you all these years. I don't see what

is not to like about Cherry. she is an

accomplished doctor in the United

States and her family has been in wealth

for a very long time. "Mum you don't

understand what is... "Shut up Joshua,

I'm still talking. I have always told you

not to interrupt me when I'm talking. I

am your mother and you should listen

to my advice because it's the best you

can ever get. I don't know the reason

you are hooking up with girls who are

frustrated in love when there are better

ladies out there. My son, you deserve

the best of everything and not the

rejects of society. Sometimes I appear

to be hard on you because I love you.

Cherry will arrive tomorrow. I am not

telling you to marry her immediately

so don't get me wrong. I want you to

pick her up, take her on a date, and treat

her like a lady. She will only be staying

with you for a week and after that

period of one week, you are free to

decide if you want to marry her or not.

I know you will want to disagree with

me because Linda is pregnant for you

but don't worry, Cherry does not have

any issues being a stepmother."

 After hearing all the blah that his

mum has just said, for the first time in

Josh's life, he decided to stand against

his mother. He was so pissed as he

looked into his mother's face and said

"Now listen to me, mom. I've been

wanting to say this for a very long time

and I'm very happy I get to say it to your

face today. What I do with my life is

not your concern. I want you to stay

off my back and stop prying into my

affairs. Aren't you ashamed of yourself?

You stand in front of me to call yourself

a mother. Please don't call yourself a

mother anymore as that is an insult to

mothers around the world. You have no

right to control what I do or who I marry

and you also have no right to call

anybody names. You dare to say that

Linda is frustrated in love when your

dear cherry has no problems being a

stepmother to a child who is not yet

born. Isn't that the height of frustration?"

After speaking, Josh stormed out of

the house and drove his car out

without looking back.
