CHAPTER 63: SHE SAW ME!

"You are up now, how are you feeling?" She asked as she entered the bedroom and saw him stretching his hands.

After taking breakfast with her daughter Mrs Mukhongo decided to relax in the sitting room before going outside to busk under the sun. She wanted to distract her mind not to think about what Mish asked her about. She moved around the compound as she instructed the workers on their daily duties.

Some of them were surprised seeing her early on that day. She is not an early riser neither a lazy person but it was not her routine waking up early. She joked around with the maids as they worked in the kitchen.Afterwards she decided to go upstairs and check on her husband.

Surprisingly he was awake stretching out his hands. " Why am l having a headache in the morning?" He asked no one in particular. Since they were the only one in the bedroom Mrs Mukhongo decided to answer him.

"You had too much to drink yesterday, maybe that's a result of hangover"

"What do you mean l was drunk yesterday? I c... He didn't finish up his sentence. He felt too much headache and the way his wife was looking at him. If looks could kill he will be buried by now.

"Just lie in the bed l will bring you something to eat or drink"

"Just warm water " Mr Mukhongo said as he relaxed on the pillow.

His wife left to bring him warm water. 'What happened yesterday, after l left office l came straight home....did l see my daughter?..what did l eat for supper ...ooh no l can't remember anything what is happening to me..did l drink that much as she says?'. Mr Mukhongo tried connecting dots to figure out what happened to him but he couldn't. The much he thought the much he had a bad headaches.

After a short period of time his wife Mrs Mukhongo came back with warm water in the flask with a cup. She helped him sit up as she handed him a cup full of water.

"Hunny do you mind telling me what happened yesterday? He shamelessly asked his wife. She squinted her compound eyes as she seemed to be thinking what to tell him or answer him.

"Seriously,l should be the one asking you that, you came home drunk. You daughter found you outside drunk beyond recognition"

"So you mean l drove back home drunk beyond recognition without breaking any traffic rules or causing an accident, you need to work on your lying technics" he smirked.

"Are you playing with my mind or what? Evans you came home yesterday drunk, you don't believe?, Your driver is the one who brought back the car without you saying that you will come back late and you don't need it. You don't even remember."

At that moment his wife run out of patient and she unconsiouslly raised her voice. Mr Mukhongo was not used to his wife calling him his first name. He was surprised when he heard her say Evans on top of her voice. He was ashamed when he heard that Mish saw him drunk as his wife is claiming something he find hard to believe.

"Calm down and talk to me, you mean Mish saw me drunk?"

"Not only drunk but also puked on your sorry self" she said as she slummed the door  leaving him alone in a regret state.

He found the energy to seat at the edge of the bed and held his head in his hands. Regretting what he did, although he didn't remember what happened. He knows that what his wife said to him is nothing but the truth, she can't lie to him. No not her,she knows her too well.
