Chapter 5

" Why the hell did you punch me? " Arden asks as he massages his jaw.

He hasn't changed a bit since the last time I saw him. He is roguishly handsome. With his unbievably green eyes and dark hair.

" That's for the fuel you made me waste. "

He looked at me and sighed. Then he chuckled and spread his arms. I laughed as I hugged him and patted his back. Then I withdrew but kept a hold on his shoulder. I had missed him a lot.

We had first met at five at a boarding school where our parents had left us at the same time. We met outside the admission office and became inseparable since then. His parents left him there for his safety. His dad was the leader of the most deadly mafia and he had enemies. So he decided the best thing to do was distance himself from the only child he had. I still recalled how his mom had cried as she left him. His dad had to pull her away because she didn't want to let go of him.

And my parents.... well, my parents walked out of the office with beeming smiles on their distinguished faces. My dads last words to me before they merrily skipped away being.

" I know you think we're abandoning you son but that's not true. Well be sure to check in every three months to see how you're getting on. Now bye, I booked flights to the Caribbean for our vacation and I don't us want to be late. "

Dreadful, I know.

I mean, I was five. How would I know where the Caribbean was?

That was also the day they told me I was adopted. Five minutes before we got to the school. Apparently my mom had been lonely and my dad had thought of getting her a dog. But on his way to the pet store he changed his mind and decided to get a tiny human instead. They didn't require to be walked and the orphanage was also closer compared to the pet store.

A win win situation.

I provided the perfect Christmas photo and enabled them to brag about my perfect grades to their fellow wealthy friends. Of course that was until five years later when they got bored with parenting and decided to make me someone else's problem.

But they did provide me with everything so guess I can't complain.

" You've grown a few inches taller haven't you? " Arden asked as he used his hand to level my height with his. Pulling me back to the lovely present.

" No. Your brain shrunk a few inches, "

He shook his head and crossed his arms. Then as if remembering something he out his finger up and asked me to wait for a minute. He walked the few steps to the receptionists desk and came back. A bouquet of flowers in his hand.

" Voila, " he said as he handed them to me. I laughed as I took them. He truly was insane. One would never assume that behind that funny and sweet personality was a man without a conscience. One capable of taking a life without giving it a second thought.

" What did you do? Stop by a cemetery and grab them from a poor persons grave? "

He acted shocked and offended. Gasping as he dramatically placed a hand on his chest.

" Of course not! What kind of person do you think I am? " he shook his head.

" I took them from an old lady's ward at the hospital..... but don't worry, I think she was dead so she doesn't really need them, "

What? At first I thought he was joking then I saw the serious look on his face. And at the same time I noticed what I'm sure was a blood stain on his tight blood T-shirt.

" Goodness Arden. If you were going to kill someone before meeting me the least you could do was change your shirt. And why on earth were you at the hospital? "

He looked down at himself with a frown.

" But I haven't killed anyone all week. Oh, it must be Layla's. "

" Who? "

I was never going to understand him. He was so confusing sometimes and I had known him for twenty one bloody years.

" This girl I met. She was really sweet. A bit too shy though, " he informed me as he studied the stain.

" Come on. Let's get a drink and I'll tell you a about it. "

He led me out of the building with his arm draped lazily over my shoulder. He had not even been here for a day and he already had interesting tales to tell. I couldn't wait to hear about this Layla girl.

So we made our way to a really nice restaurant down the street. Just me, him and a possibly dead old lady's flowers.

It was so good to have him back.
