Going-gray’s face turned somewhere between angry red and angry purple.
“How dare you!” he barked as he moved toward me.
Was he going to strike me down?
Shade moved to stand by me. Sideburns raised a hand to stop grandpa
from grabbing me.
“Cut her some slack,” Shade said, his voice always calm. “Pip has never
lived in our city so she doesn’t know our shifter rules. Hell, she might have never met a shifter before.”
I smiled. His words gave me an idea.
“That’s right,” I said, trying to match the tone of Shade’s voice. “I’m a small-town girl. I’m not in the same league as you big boys.”
“That’s not what I meant,” Shade said, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Of course, you aren’t in our league,” Going-gray growled. “But when you refer to the Alpha Heir or any of your betters, you don’t use the word ‘boy’! You need to learn some shifter etiquette.”
I grinned at him. “Will you teach me, sir?”
Going-gray clenched his teeth.
“Let’s not get sidetracked,” Sideburns interrupted. “The girl has a
tendency to get everyone off track.”
“I don’t want to get anyone off,” I offered him a smirk. “And my name
is Pip not girl.”
If he kept avoiding saying my name as if it’d bite him in the ass, then
why did he even bother bringing me here?
Going-gray glared at me. “You’ll not speak unless spoken to.” He
rubbed at the back of his head as if I’d given him a severe headache. “We should send this girl to Shifters Academy, but it might be too advanced for her. However, we can’t drop her in the middle school either. She’s too old to be put there and too crass. Consider the bad influence she’ll be for our youth.”
“What kind of bad influence are you talking about?” I asked in a sweet voice to irk him more.
Sideburns raised a hand to shut me up.
“Lucian’s vampires are clearly hunting you,” he growled, studying me closely to see if a muscle or two twitched under my eyes. If I had that kind of nervous reaction, he’d call me out as a liar. I almost wanted to do just that.
But when he referred to Lucian, my mind instantly remembered my vampire savior. Even now, sitting across from Sideburns and feeling the high sexual tension between us, my mind still worried about that specific vampire, and it wasn’t because he was burning hot and gorgeous.
“Could you tell me more about this Lucian?” I asked, leaning forward, interest sparking in my eyes. “How does he look? I need details, like the color and style of his hair, the color of his eyes, basic skin tone, his height, build, manners, and what kind of clothes he usually wears.”
A sudden possessive and angry look flitted in Sideburns’ eyes, turning their color to gunmetal gray.
“Why do you want to know all about him?” he demanded, his expression hard.
“And don’t play games, Pip girl,” Going-gray barked.
