Chapter 169

They were going to open me up. A second later, I felt a cut on my skin. Pain hit my nerve endings. I whimpered, trying to call for help, but no sound came out. Tears flowed from the corners of my eyes.

I was a lamb in a slaughterhouse. I didn’t know why they had me here or why they hurt me so.

An ear-splitting alarm sounded on the ceiling, followed by a thunderous cracking. The thick door tumbled from its hinges.

A giant man stepped through the door in a dark trench coat. His rich brown hair flowed to his chin. Even in great pain and terror, I still recognized his dark, icy beauty that took my pained breath away. To some

beings, he might be a nightmare come to life, but to me, as if my soul just knew, he was my dark angel and shining knight.

Our gazes held for a heartbeat but felt like an eternity to me. He drew me in like a moth to his dark flame, even though I couldn’t move. His sapphire eyes brimmed with ancient power, loneliness, aching need, and terrifying rage.

A shiver passed over me.

No one and nothing mattered anymore. Not even my agony or my tormentors in the room.

I’d known this man before, even though I couldn’t recall it. And now, he had finally come for me when no one else would. My ordeal and nightmare would be over soon.

‘Take me away’, my eyes pleaded. I hoped I could speak to him, but when I tried to move my mouth, I found that my vocal cords had also been bound.

My tormentors shuddered, but for a very different reason than I.

The immortal trained on them, crimson rage flashing in his wrathful eyes.

“The Vampire God! He’s come for her!” one of the beings in the room hissed, fear drenching his voice. I grinned inwardly at their terror.

When I could move again, I would strike them down.

Shouts rang out everywhere. The blaring alarm grew louder and more urgent. Armed guards and men in robes rushed the lone vampire. Fire and light exploded around him, and a jet of fireballs shot toward him.

My heart pounded in fear for him. My skin was both hot and cold.

“We have to finish her off now!” a woman’s voice called, jerking me back to the room. “The plan has changed. We can’t let him take her. We can’t let anyone else have her if we want to stop doomsday!”

Everything happened at once.

The group of masked men and women no longer cowered away from the vampire but rushed to me, scalpels, scissors, and saws in their hands.

The vampire produced a machine gun, and roaring bullets cut through the people in the room. My tormentors dropped around me before they could saw me apart. I watched in dread as a ball of fire hit the vampire in the chest.

My heart squeezed in pain, yet I could not help him, as I was still immobile. I struggled to no avail, just like before.
