"Next tomorrow is Sunday, you will take me to that blind beggar, I need to see him for myself, I'll like to see if he has something to tell me. And now that I know, I'll like to see that woman again, or anyone on black, and I will make sure that they tell me why they are planting their eyes on my family"
So mom said.
"No mom, you don't have to go anywhere close to them, I have the feeling that those people are dangerous, they could be from the Bermuda Triangle..."
"Will you keep quiet? I don't ever want to hear that word in this house, you must not pronounce that word in this house. "
Mom quickly interrupted me with a sound rebuke, she seemed irritated by the word "Bermuda". That gave me a grip of fear as I mellowed down like a tortoise hiding in its shell.
"But you are right, we need to be very careful, but I will like you to know that that I am not afraid of anything, yes, your mom is not afraid, I will face anyone who poses as a threat to my family."
So she said. Yes, I know about that. My mom is really a strong woman, she had proven to be strong in many ramifications, and I can say that I got some of her traits, one thing about us is that we can be calm but when we need to act we can be fierce and dangerous. you know, my mother bore me in the Eastern part of Nigeria, and yes, my father may be a merman, but O! I am so human, even more human than many humans I know. But I am still partially a merman, even though mom finds it hard to believe, I still have some traits of the Aqua King. I grew in the East, and my mother taught me underneath trees just like every Igbo kid, and sitting down before the heat of most days, he took me on her lap and kissed me, and pointing to the east where the sunsets from, she will often say.
"Look on the rising sun: there God does reside, and there he gives his light and gives his heat away. My boy, you are an Igbo man, and we the Igbos are not known for laziness and cowardice, we are great people in this country, everyone knows about that. Our first obligation is to family, and you must know this because a time shall come when you will be needed to show your strength, you will have to choose between protecting your family or protecting your face. Every time of this country knows that we the Igbo's down to nobody, neither do we prostrate nor kneel."
So she said, there is this Igbo word which she often uses to describe the proud Igbo tribe.
"anyị anaghị asị endo". This she will always sit to me, and the meaning of the sentence is " We do not say sorry."
So you see, I am of the strong and proud tribe of Ndi Igbo, this was why I think that I am an Igbo man, I know that I can also fight against these people in black suits, we are beautiful too. we for sure do not take it likely when we feel like someone is threatening our family, so, this so-called river people who are now walking around in search of what so ever, because for now, their motive Is yet to be clear to. Do you see these looks of mine? They are just the true definition of this saying, "looks can be deceiving". For sure "looks can be deceiving". Yes, looks can be deceiving, this is true because even me, I could be deceived by the way I look, but God knows that I am far from being weak, just like mom, I will fight anyone who dares to say that he wants to fight my family. Hmmm... Now I am ready to fight all of those people in black, but I have to wait, yes we all will have to wait so as to see if they will come to us, if they do, that is when I will have to blend my Igbo strength and the merman in me.
"Damian pleas I'm sure that you have prepared something for dinner right?"
Mom asked as she quickly tried to turn off the tension caused by my personal experience.
"Yes, mom I did."
So I responded and she said they she will have to go inside and wash herself so she will come out for dinner. Ao, she actually went inside picking her bag with she walked inside singing a gospel worship song. So, as mom went inside to take a shower, I quickly went into the kitchen to quickly serve the dinner into the dishes, I never forget to see mom's food on her personal special plate, so after the food had been prepared, I came to the dining table and get it dressed up so I can place the food.
I love mom a lot, my mom is the most caring woman I know, she is not just beautiful on her external, she is also beautiful in her internal, she has what is called the inner beauty. She had always taken my matter personally, there had never been any problem of mine that my mom can not fix, as far as it has to do with me.
I just can't wait to finish with my schooling so I can make her proud so that I can pay her back for all the life-saving kindness and power that she had exhibited.
