Chapter 31

Hattie sat in the seat just beside Javier's as they drove in silence. She kept stealing glance at him. More like, staring at him. She couldn't help it. Perks for driving home with a Greek God. Everything about him was attractive, ranging from his hair, down to the way he firmly gripped the car steering. Imagine those hands on her. She couldn't help but swim in that fantasy.

"Is there a problem, Hattie?" He asked he certainly caught her staring.

Of course there is, you are too drop dead gorgeous

"nothing" she muttered bowing her head slightly

"If you say so" Javier smirked

"Fay is missing" Javier blurted out with his eyes still fixed on the road

"She is? Daphne said something about not finding her but I just waited to confirm from you"

"She wasn't there when I got there. It didn't seem like she ran away"

"Could this be ordinary, who could have taken her"

"I don't know" Javier said

"Don't start" Hattie said already pissed off

"Lagatha has her" Javier admitted

"The witch?"

"No the lashedta"

"What does she want with her"

"Alot"

"Start from somewhere"

"Let's just go With, she thinks Fay has the pendant"

"My pendant?"

"Yes your pendant"

"Oh poor girl. Would they hurt her?"

"No they wont" he lied, he didn't want her worrying about anything. He knew that Lagatha would do more than Hurting Fay to get what she want. There was a possibility that Lagatha could kill Fay if she finds out that she is not with the pendant.

"We need to tell the police"

"To do what?"

"To find Fay"

"And you think they would succeed?"

"We have to at least try. We can't just sit back and watch. Waiting for her dead body to be submitted before doing anything" Hattie yelled

"The police can't do anything"

"We don't know that"

"Of course you do Hattie"

"I have to help her"

"You cant"

"What am I supposed to do?"

"Leave it to me"

"To do what!"

"God damn Hattie, why can't you just listen for a second"

"It is almost impossible. A girl in my custody has been kidnapped"

"No one put her in your custody"

"Can you stop being selfish"

"Well Hattie " he breathed out trying to relieve himself from the  tension that he felt from Hattie's nagging.

"What do you suppose we do?" he added

"We need to get her our of that witch's hands"

" Hattie she is not a witch"

"A lashedta or whatever the fuck you wanna call it. We have to get her back"

"I didn't intend on leaving her  there in  the first place. You are the one that is so tensed up"

"Fine, master Javier, What should we do?"

"We have to be smart, Lagatha is too trickish"

"Should we just hand out the pendant in an exchange for Fay"

"That is just absurd. And she would still kill Fay. With or without the pendant"

"Why?"

"Because the pendant is not the only reason she has Fay. At least the pendant is the thing keeping her alive at the moment"

"So there is another reason why she wanted Fay"

"Yes. Don't ask me the reason" Javier couldn't bring himself into explaining the cause to her.

"I wasn't gonna ask" Hattie said playfully folding her arms under her breast as he looked out of the window.

"Good"

"What does she want the pendant for?"

"She could do anything, including killing me" Javier said rather too plainly, compared to how Hattie's heart sunk as a result of the word he uttered

"She would?" Hattie's voice came out quietly, almost in a whisper

"She could"

"Imagine if it got into Andrew's hands. It would be very difficult to protect him from you"

"Oh" Hattie said on realisation

"Now you know why handing the pendant over to them would be a bad idea?"

"Yeah but still I can't let Fay die"

"Nothing is going to happen to her. I promise"

"You don't know that?" Hattie's voice came  out quite shaky.

"Trust me for once" Javier added

"did you speak to Daphne?"

"Yes i did. She felt so guilty, thanks to you"

"What did i do?"

"You should have just let her forget everything"

"And why would I do that?"

"Because it would save her from life guilt"

"So Andrew did all of This?" Hattie asked in frustration.

"Yes he did"

"What else is he capable of doing?"

"Alot"

"When will it end" Hattie said frustrated

"The day I would slit his throat by my hands"

"Is Andrew as dangerous as Lagatha?"

"Like mother like son"

"Lagatha is Andrew's mother?"

"Yes she is, that is why they act alike"

"The cartel family consist of 5; Andrew the first son, Lawson, the second, Mabel, the third. Lagatha, their mother and Adriel their father"

"The cartels, Fay mentioned them once. She said something about them being after her. And they were the reason why she wasn't allowed to go outdoor when she was little" she paused

"So if Lagatha belongs to the Cartels, then that means she had been after Fay since she was still a kid"

"You figured it out" Javier said tapping on the steering of th car, slightly, With his eyes till fixed on the road"

"But what does she want with Fay then. If the pendant is not the only thing"

"You said you weren't going to ask" Javier sighed

"But it's kind of disturbing how they tracked her all these while"

"There is a girl among the Cartels?"

"Yes, Mabel"

"Is she as heartless as the rest"

"She is dead"

"Oh" Hattie said with realisation

"What about the other one, Lawson?"

"What about him?"

"Tell me about him"

"He is just like the rest but more considerate than the others. Don't be fooled, he can also be as ruthless and heartless as the rest"

"So it runs in their blood"

*******

"That ride felt like forever" Hattie said as she opened the door.

"the drive was only longer because of your constant nagging"

"I couldn't help but feel tensed Javier, you should understand. That girl has already been through a lot and having her in the hands of those Monsters, the thought is quite unbearable"

"We will get her out"

"I hope so"

 *****

"What do you mean by that?" Lagatha shouted angrily at Hudson.

"What do I pay you for. If you can't deliver just a single job done. How hard is it to find a common pendant"

"I tried my best in searching and....."

He was interrupted by a smack that landed on his right cheek. Lagatha took out his gun that was held firmly around his waist and pointed his to his head.

"Look young man, a gun can't kill you but trust me, when I am the one with the gun it can do anything. I gave you one job, one job! and you have been messing it up for how many years. do you think this is a joke to you, do you know how much that pendant means?. Now let me tell you, it means more than your life. I can snap my fingers and you will be long gone and no one, when I mean no one will ever know of your where about. Trust me"

"I'm sorry Ma'am"

"Keep your sorry to yourself I don't need it" Lagatha raised his head slightly with the gun below his chin. Now listen, I want that pendant and I want it fast. You have no option of not bringing that pendant. The next time you come here and give me a silly excuse I will kill you with my bare hands. I don't need a gun for that" she said tossing the gun to the floor

"Now get out" she snapped and Hudson left

"Take it easy Lagatha, Being tensed stop can make it think less" Adriel said as soon as Hudson left

"I hate incompetent people. I would have gotten rid of him a long time ago if he wasn't a lashedta. Fay doesn't have the pendants and he is adding to my problems by giving me silly excuses"

"But what if there is another one?"

"I doubt that, I would have found out a long time ago I think Fay is the only one"

"What are you going to do to Fay now?"

"What I have always wanted to do. I will make her suffer, I will make her go through pain before I finally kill her. That way, I would be satisfied and have the peace of mind that I've always wanted for the past years"

"The poor girl absolutely knows nothing about it"

"She doesn't have to and I don't care if she does. She's the only one available and I am willing to take out my anger on her"

"As you wish my lady" Adriel teased

*******

Hattie laid on her bed bed. She tilted to the other side of her bed trying to find a more comfortable spot. In this process she was interrupted by a slight and faint footstep In her room. Strange. Sleep still had powers over her eyes, she could barely open them up but she was aware of what was going on around her. She was slowly drifting back into sleep when she heard the footstep again. Now she was sure that there was somebody in her room. who could be in Her? By this time of the night if not Javier. She opened her eyes, slowly and carefully in order not to alert the person in the room in case it wasn't Javier. it will be a very bad idea letting the intruder know that she was awake. The figure she found, standing by the edge of her bed baffled. Her heart beat increased rapidly. beads of sweat  gathered on her forehead and the duvet around her body increased the heat.

"I know you are awake Hattie" the voice came

How could she ever forget that voice. The person that sent chills in her body when he came for counseling.  The person that she dreaded the most in her life. The person that was after her life. The person that was bent on making her suffer Andrew

"Hattie, get up, the heat must be unbearable"

"What do you want from me?" Hattie sat up, finally giving in. She couldn't pretend for ever. The room was too dark so she couldn't make out his feature but she knew for sure that is Andrew.

"To talk"

"Javier would rip your head out of its plug if he finds you here"

"Why do everyone think I am the villain?" He said with a playful but deadly chuckle.

"Because that is what you are"

"You people have Fay, what do you want from  her?"

"I don't have Fay, my mother does"

"If you hurt her" Hattie threatened.

"It's kind of funny how you ignore some deeds done by Javier and you seem to be so crazy about my mother holding a girl hostage"

"What deeds are you talking about?"

"Javier's"

"What do you mean?"

"Of course he won't tell you"

"Tell me what?"

"About Westin's death"

"What do you mean?" she spoke out in anticipation of hearing what he had to say

"He didn't tell you about killing westin" he paused as he grinned. "Of course he didn't tell you, he doesn't want you to know of his dark side"

"What are you talking about?"

"I am saying, your loving and caring Javier murdered Westin in a quest to get you"

"I don't belive you" she said as she could already feel the lump building in throat. She swallowed hard

"I thought so, seeing they say, Is believing. I would let you see for your self"

"Why are you doing this?"

"Because I feel like. Javier is not the sweet person you see. Javier is just like me"

"I still don't belive you"

"The room that Javier caught you trespassing in. Why do you think he reacted that way. You could get your answers in there"

"Are you trying to ruin our relationship"

"Hattie wake up, you never had a relationship with Javier. Think about it"

"Naive sweet Hattie" he mocked

"I'll see you later but I'll not be this friendly" Andrew said and he vanished like he was never there to begin with

Hattie just sat on her bed. She was frozen for a moment. She knew that Andrew was the last person to believe with all that was happening but she had a feeling that it could be truth. She remembered the way Javier was so angered the day he found her in that particular room. She needed answer. She couldn't just sit on such an information. She needed to find out more. Her heart ached by the thought and she prayed and hoped that it was false.

She got down from her bed. she shivered the moment her legs made contact with the cold Floor. She searched for her slippers and slipped it on. She needed to find out the truth by herself, she wasn't going to live on Andrew's theory, he could be lieing. She needed to find out if there was more to this

She slowly opened her room door, the least she wanted to do was to wake Javier up. He would most definetly stop her from entering that room, if he could. She closed the door behind her and went for the stairs, as quietly as possible. The heavy feeling in her chest grew bigger and bigger as she approached the room. Her fears overtook her reasoning. She was not thinking straight at the moment. All she wanted to do was confirm if the claims were true or not.

She stopped In front of the room door, breathing out a shaky breath, that was how tensed up she was. She was scared of what the room could hold. She raised her shaky hands and placed it on the door knob, twisting it. The room was dark, she rubbed her hand across the wall, just after the door in search of light switch. She found one and flipped it on. The room was plain and didn't look unusual, except from the fact it had no bed. It wasn't a room, it was just like a passage way with a lot of corners. She walked into the room and surveyed it. She didn't find anything in line with what Andrew said. The room surely needed maintenance as it was had a lot of cobwebs and dusty surface, along with the musty smell that the room emitted. She walked on and she found a door just by the side. It was hardly noticed because of the angle it was placed. Hattie walked to the door. The door wasn't bulging no matter how much Hattie tried to force it open. it wasn't locked but was jammed as a result of rust and dirt. She tried opening the door with her two hand bit it didn't work. She shaked the knob violently in frustration. She proceeded in using her shoulder to hit the door, applying more force to each hit. It made noise but she didn't care. At this moment she wanted to see what was behind the door. She hit the door until it opened and she stood there breathless after the effort in opening the door.
