Chapter 58

She hopefully looked up at him and he wanted to tell her yes. But then what if the time she gave him ended and she demanded that he tell her again? What would he do then? And if he had already said yes then that would mean that he had lied to her.

" I don't know, " he truthfully admitted.

Flame scoffed, yanking her arm away again. And this time he let her go. She went and locked herself up in the washroom and even though all he wanted to do was go after her and tell her all she wished to know, he was unable to.

Flame felt hurt by his refusal to share. She had been so open with him, and she had told him things she had never told anyone else. And all she wanted in return was for him to be able to share his troubles with her. Even if she wouldn't know exactly how to solve them, she wanted to know so that she could be there for him and offer him her comfort. But the damn angel clearly didn't want that.

And if he really did care for her like he claimed to them he would not have a problem with telling her all that she wished to know.

" Flame, open up! "

" I asked you to let me be! "

" It's an emergency, you have to open up! " He knocked on the door continuously until she gave up and opened it. And the first thing she was met with was Nuriel's worried and stressed face.

" What is it? " she asked and he stepped inside hurriedly, that stressed look still intact.

" I just got linked by Quillon, he says there's a fire in town. "

                               💮🌼💮🌼💮🌼

Nuriel set Flame on her feet and rushed forward to meet Quillon. She had insisted on tagging along and he had been too preoccupied with thoughts to argue.

" What the bloody dungeons happened!! " he shouted before he got to where Quillon was.

The fire was greater than he had thought. Most of the buildings had already been consumed by it and it was still blazing strong. Clearly intent on ruining any kind of structure there was.

The beings were busy running around shouting, trying their best to put it out.

Everything was in chaos.

" I have no idea, I was in the forest a few miles away when I heard the screams. Then I flew up and saw the smoke that's when I linked you, " Quillon quickly explained as he dashed forward and helped a lady that had fallen to her feet. She stared at him in awe, but then soon regained her composure and hurried away to assist in putting out the fire.

It was no surprise that Quillon had been in the forest that early, he basically lived there. Said he felt more at home surrounded by trees and the wild creatures.

" Have you informed the others? " he asked and Nuriel nodded. Looking around with a grave face.

" Both them and the warriors, they must be on their way, "

In the mean time, they had to do everything in their power to ensure that the fire did not spread. And they also had to ensure that no one got hurt. Nuriel began by instructing all the younglings he saw to go to safety. Children were always his first priority. He tasked three of the warriors who had just arrived with taking them away from there. And he asked them to guard them with their lives since the terrorizer was still larking out there.

The other angels had also arrived. With an exception of Rehan, he might have wanted to be there to help but it would do no one any good if the beings were too busy being compelled by his feathers to take care of the matter at hand.

Flame wanted to do anything she could to help. So she assisted the beings to carry buckets of water and pour on the burning buildings. So did the other angels. And the hundreds of warriors set out to the river where they filled carriages with more gallons and hurriedly transported them to the town. And almost an hour later, everyone was sweating and exhausted. Then Kael flew up and shook his head, just realising something.

" The fire's not dying down! " he shouted loud enough for everyone to hear admist the chaos.

And it was true, even after pouring water on it, it still came roaring back to life after seconds.

" And it's not spreading either! " Barin added. Noticing that only a number of the buildings had been affected.

The flames were hot enough to make them all feel as if their skin was burning. And it did not help that the sun was also starting to come up.

" What the fuck is going on here? " Rylan snapped as he dropped an empty steel bucket. His features seemingly irritated and furious.

The optimistic beings carried on with their attempts to put it out. But it was clear that it was not working. And soon after, everyone stopped attempting to put it out and simply stood there watching it in wonderment. Trying to figure out exactly what was happening

Flame stood still and looked around. Then she looked back and noticed something. There was a male that had strayed away from the crowd, and he was walking towards one of the buildings a short distance away. But there was something about his strides, and about his form as he walked. It almost seemed like he was being controlled by something. As if he wasn't aware of his actions and was simply walking in his sleep.

Like a zombie from the movies she had seen back on earth.

It was nerve racking just to look at.

She looked for Nuriel but at the moment he was busy yelling out orders to everyone. So she slowly wandered off and followed the male as she attempted to call him.

" Hey!... can you hear me?.... um, excuse me!..... Sir? "

He did not respond. She was about to run after him when she realised that she would be running to the unknown. And the unknown scared her. Plus it did not seem wise to try and handle the situation alone. So she restlessly looked around for anyone she thought would be able to help.

" Kalen? " she called out. Hoping that she had gotten his name right since there were so many of them and she was terrible at remembering names. But luckily she had gotten it right.

" Yes milady? " he asked as he ran to her. His wings of greyed violet a shade so soft and sweet. And his true violet eyes curious as he stared at her with raised brows. She pointed towards the direction of the male who was just disappearing around the corner of the building.

" I think there's something wrong with him, " she said and Kalen followed her hand. Then he frowned and asked her to stay put before he literally ran in the direction of probable danger. She looked back at the fire, it was still burning bright, and it seemed like everyone was wondering what to do. It wasn't going out but neither was it spreading. It was just there.

A few seconds later, she saw Nuriel step away from the warriors he was talking to and head towards the same direction as Kalen had. And along with him went Victor and Rylan.

" Good morning Flame, " Kael said as he landed next to her. She was still kind of angry at him for getting her drunk. But judging by the situation, she decided to let bygones be bygones.

" I'd answer that but there's nothing good about this morning. " she waved around at the fire and Kael tilted his head from side to side and gave a half shrug.

" I suppose you're right. So why don't you try fixing it. "

Lines creased her forehead and she placed both hands on her waist.

" What do you mean? "

He scoffed, taking a second to wave at a group of young girls several feet away, a rather seductive smile on his face . They giggled amongst themselves before looking away. And he finally returned his attention to her.

" I mean it's fire. And you are literally the queen of fire in every right. Just try doing what you did the other day and see if it will work, "

" In other words you want me to say stop? "

He nodded.

" Well I just did, and see....it didn't work. " She explained and he urged her to try again. She did so, over and over until she grew tired of it and gave up. Then she told him that she doubted that was how it worked She didn't believe that she could actually control fire unless it was she that had summoned it. And the fire only feet away from her was definitely not her doing.

" I mean, it has to go out at some point, right? It can't just burn throughout the day nonstop, " because if so then that would be extremely odd.
