The startling quiet that still exists between all of us is broken by a groan from Scott. "Is this how you were all just going to sit down quiet?" he ask, and I can see from the annoyed expression in his eyes that he's tired of this silence. He's tired of the bone wrecking silence that has made me look so cautiously to Clay ever since.
I had caught that totally indifferent look in his eyes, he seems nonplussed and bored in our company, and I can't seem to know what to do. What I had planned before was a private lunch, just the two of us, and maybe an intrusion from Scott, but I didn't plan for Eras too okay. Two might be okay, three might be bordering on the edge, but four is just too much.
I cannot seem to also ignore the fact that that this fourth person, seems to be the guy that i have been bonding so well with the past few days, and he simply does his best to ignore us, and not look at me.
As he typed away on his phone I find myself saying "I think introductions are in place". I think I have finally summoned up my courage, it would be better to speak, and watch things go awkward, than to not speak at all and not know the true end results of what speaking might actually have been.
Everyone's attention snaps to me, and I can see the faint hint of surprise in Scott eyes. I shoot him my deadliest glare, and a delightfully beautiful smile lights up his lips. I wish so badly that I had Oakley here with me, if she had been here with me then maybe I wouldn't be feeling so nervous at this point.
"We already know each other". Scott is looking down into his milkshake as he stirs it with the straw, "Who is this new person that you've brought?".
The question seems to be phrased rudely, or sounds so in my ears, and I cannot say if it is actually meant to be rude, or if that is just my anxiety speaking.
"He's someone from my class" I tell them "Clay Jensen, we had all met that day I the principal's office, and he's my students partner for this year". That seemed to elicit a glimmer of recognition in Eras's eyes, and his mouth falls into a smile.
"It seems we're all here with our student partners then" he says, and I cannot help but give an easy chuckle. We talk about many things, like how there seems to be no class each and every day for this week, and how there is a total rarity of students and teachers alike in school. It seems that the students have also caught on to the fact that they are basically coming to school to do nothing, and if not for having a perfect attendance I'm pretty sure I would do so too.
For the most part of it Clay seems shy and reserved, and he only speaks when he needs to, and that does not settle well with me. I think it's also doesn't settle well with Scott, as he practically assaults him with a barrage of questions. I face palm myself.
