Maya took another bite from the apple and dropped the leftover on the table, rose to her feet and walked out of the office leaving Gonzales less stunned by her reaction, he had expected this issue to be a difficult one for her as he knew right from start that she had issues being around people and to now find out that she has a sister.
He wondered how his other daughter would be like, he knew this wasn't something he should be thinking about but he hoped she wasn't anything like Maya. She could have the brave and hardworking spirit but he hoped she wasn't non chalant like Maya.
He didn't even know her name yet, he could have asked Gustavo but he wanted to hear from the horses mouth, maybe her name also started with the letter M.
He leaned back into his seat breathing out slowly, it was best he went to the event down the hall and keep the guest occupied, the reason he had organized the event was because today was Maya's birthday.
He wanted to use the opportunity to inform the guest that Maya was his biological daughter in hopes that some notable suitors would come out of it, he feared Maya might resort to ruining the event with her nonchalant attitude but with the current situation of having a twin sister he was sure she would rather get drunk and go to bed than cause any chaos.
He rose to his feet and headed out to the hall not sure of what she might do these time.
Maya had been in shocked when she heard that there was someone else out there who looked like her, it meant that she had a twin sister and she could only hope she didn't have anymore siblings, while growing up she had wondered who her mother was for years and why her father decided to neglect her despite how hard she tried to win him over by training long and hard with her uncle.
Eventually her uncle had allowed her meet her mother and she was the sweetest thing ever even though Maya treated her like shit, she was fine with it as long as she was able to see her little girl every weekend, till one day the visit came to an end and she was informed that her mother had died of some terminal illness.
Her father had immediately come to pick her up from her uncle's place into his mansion, it took some getting used to the change of environment as she wasn't used to people doing things for her or touching her things.
A little shouting and slapping the hell out of their face was what she eventually resorted to when she realized being a sweet girl wasn't going to get her anywhere here.
She didn't understand how her mother could still talk good of her father despite the fact that they were divorced, she always thought divorced couples hated themselves or maybe it was from the movies she watched.
Her mother not only praised her father, she also encouraged them to build a good father and daughter relationship.
It was when she was brought to the mansion did she come to understand that, her parents were still legally married when her mother had died, she had been pained that her father couldn't fight for the family to be back together as one rather he stayed in the shadows for many years hiding them from only God knows what.
She didn't get what he had spent his youth doing that he had developed a lot of enemies over the years and some of them had tried to kill her, it was the first time she was forced to starting keeping a gun in her bag, strapped to her thighs or in her pants pocket.
She turned into the hall filled with lots of ladies and gentlemen as they would address themselves but they were all just little piece of shit, dressed in their expensive and classy suits and ball gowns.
Heads turned to stare at her not only was she wearing a black blazer and black jeans she had decided to use a dark lipstick as well to the ball events, she didn't spare them a look rather she took a drink from the tray of one of the waiters passing taking a quick sip as she could hear people mumming and paving way for her to pass with her hideous outfit.
She finally stopped in a corner and leaned on a pillar taking another sip from the glass, she had just downed one bottle earlier in the day, she cautioned herself to sip and not rush.
The hall was well decorated, all gold as her father liked it.
A very egoistic man, she hissed.
It was her birthday today but it felt like it was his, he had gone ahead to plan the whole event despite the fact that she had told him she didn't want to. She just wanted to go out alone, party in a club till she got high and then come home to sleep.
It was just a fucking birthday.
"Rebellious," she felt someone whisper behind her ears as she turned around to stare at a young man in a blue velvet suit, he lowered his head slightly to look into her eyes as he smiled at her and placed a light kiss on her forehead that didn't go unnoticed by the women in the room as they hissed in repulsion. How could this young man choose to kiss the forehead of that lady who looked awful over the ladies who looked elegant and sophisticated.
"You shouldn't do that," Maya said looking at her drink instead of the annoying gazes on her as she took another gulp.
"What chaos have you done this time?" He asked taking the drink in her hand but she knew what he was up to and hid it behind her. "Do you really want us to play that game?"
Maya stared at him knowing he was going to be up to no good, she didn't know why he always felt he had some kind of power over her. She remembered how they had met in some party her father had organized, she had mistaken him to be one of the waiter and he wasn't upset by her shouting on his head rather he had grabbed the hand she had raised to slap his face, placed it behind her back and stole her first kiss from her.
She had felt a certain rush in her stomach like it would explode anytime soon, for the first time she didn't know how to react to what he had done to her. He had smiled at her as his hand found her bottom lips, he slowly touched it caressing it slowly as he left her in the hallway, when she had regained her composure she had found out he was one of her father's shareholder and a very wealthy man.
Jake Wells.
She didn't enjoy attending her father's parties but she found herself attending them in hopes of seeing him again but he decided to show up when she was just coming to terms that she had a twin.
She handed him the drink as he gave it to one of the waiter's passing by.
"You look much better," he said turning back as he took glance of her outfit.
"Better?" Maya asked hoping he wasn't a mental illness patient and she forgot to look it up. How did she look better dressed this way? the last time they had seen she was dressed in a really big ball gown and she hated the gown so much especially when she wanted to pee it had been a hassle not to talk of when she wanted to sit down, the net and lacing inside the gown kept pricking her making her so uncomfortable.
How could he say she looked better, with the way she was dressed, she had pictured him to be a man who was into women who were classy and well dressed not that she couldn't do that perfectly well but she didn't understand why she had to do that frequently and not for herself but because she was trying to please someone.
Jake smiled at her, he had heard from his personal assistant that she had been coming to more events of late and he was sure it wasn't because of the boring people or their mean less conversations, he knew it was because of him even though he was sure she would deny it in a heartbeat.
He had not meant to kiss her against her will but he couldn't help it, watching her plump lips opening and shutting as she spoke, he wanted her to use the mouth to do other things than talking.
He leaned into her ear and muttered, "Wanna go somewhere quiet?"
Maya stared at him not sure if being alone with man was a good idea right now but if anything happened she was sure she could defend herself perfectly well as there was a pocket knife currently resting in her jeans back pocket.
She nodded her head in agreement as they walked out of the hall with Jake leading the way.
