"Who is laughing?" Amanda responded with a serious face, eliminating every trace of laughter on her face.
"Whatever, who is in there?" Lang waved off the topic now back to her initial question.
The entrance to Ray's office had immediately opened, Rebecca and Ray made their way out of Ray's office.
"Ohh, that's who is in there" Lang muttered as she stood from Amanda's desk, facing Raymond and the elegant Rebecca.
"Hello," she said to the infamous Rebecca.
Rebecca responded with a smirk and a tilted brow which gave off mean vibes.
Ray looked like he was set to leave work because he had his bag with him.
"I'm heading out now."
"Please go through this." He said before dropping a file before Amanda.
"Myself and Rebecca will continue our meeting."
"We will talk later."
First of all, when did Ray start saying "we will talk later? That was not his word! He barely uses that Grammer.
Secondly, Ray always brought her to most of his meetings so why wouldn't he bring her to this one.
He directed Rebecca to take to lead by placing his hands on her waist and that caused Amanda to almost physically catch fire because she had suddenly become so hot.
They soon left their view as Lang made a surprising face.
"What was that?"
"Did you get him pissed?" She added.
Amanda had her hands on her chin as she gazed at her desk.
"What have you done? he looked low-key pissed."
Lang slightly pushed Amanda's shoulders to make sure she could hear her.
"Nothing, I only asked for the food box."
"Uhh, what do you mean? That's not a crime..." Lang responded.
"Well, I bashed into his office and only came up with a question about the box."
"Oh, she was there?" Lang further inquired.
"Yea"
"That's still not such a big deal."
"Or am I missing something?" Lang further inquired.
Amanda had to let out a breath before taking her time to explain how it happened and her motives for bashing in on them.
"Emm..." Lang's let out with a closed lip as she gave what Amanda had told her a thought.
"He probably felt that you don't trust him, which I think you should," Lang advised.
"Also, you might have had him looking stupid before his rude ex."
"Yea, I thought I was the only one who noticed she was rude." Amanda chipped in.
"Yea, his ex and current girlfriend are all rude, so, I guess he has a type," Lang added that very casually and with a face like she gave it a thought.
"I'm not rude, I was just upset before you walked in," Lang argued.
"No one deserves a transfer of aggression, for whatever reason," Lang said as she moved away from Amanda's desk.
"I'm sorry.." Amanda let out with a sad face.
Lang now returned to her side, bending over and giving her a hug.
"It's okay...
A box of chocolate ice cream on me after work." Lang said.
"Deal? " She added.
"Deal," Amanda responded.
They were closed for the day. She and Lang went and got the ice cream before getting to Lang's house to help her make some jollof rice. She had earlier tried calling Ray but he didn't answer so she wanted to be done so fast so she could get to see him at home.
She was now at Ray's house, but he wasn't home. She asked Margi his way about but she said she didn't know and he wasn't taking her calls either.
She called Tyler to ask and he said he hasn't spoken to him since he left the office, but he believed he was fine.
She called him some more time but yet no answer.
She couldn't sleep, she was a little restless. She wasn't even worried about what he was doing. She just hoped that he was alright.
It was past one when Scott pulled up and Ray was in his back passenger seat.
Why did she not think to call Scott? Probably because Ray had taken himself to work and left by himself. Besides Ray did like to be driven.
But as soon as she got closer to them, it made sense why he couldn't drive.
He was far from being sober. He skinked of alcohol. He was drunk.
His suit jacket was not on him, his tie too. His shirt was buttoned down. He looked a little rough.
She crossed his hands over her shoulders as she held his waist. He could barely stand, she wondered if he could even think correctly at that point.
What was wrong? Because for over eight months that she knew this man, she had never seen him drunk. This wasn't normal and it bothered her.
She took him to his room, put him in the bathtub, washed him up, and laid him to bed.
She could still barely sleep.
She had managed to fall asleep at almost 4 AM, but before she could wake up, he was out again.
She had gone downstairs as Margi informed her that he was out.
She called him and it directed her to voicemail and she left him a message.
"What is wrong? Ray, please call me"
Margi had served breakfast, but she couldn't eat.
She wondered where Raymond and Rebecca had gone to and at what point did he start drinking and got drunk to that extent.
She didn't know anything much about Rebecca, but she wanted to, so she summoned up some courage and asked Margi about her.
"Who is Rebecca?" Amanda asked.
She noticed Margi's expression going cold and she wondered why...
Margi was carefully looking for a response, she knew it because why did she initially open her mouth to say something and then close it.
"She is someone he once had a thing with" She had finally spoken.
"How serious was what they had?"
She noticed Margi swallowing after she asked that question.
"Sweetheart, I don't think I am in the right position to tell you that."
"Why? Why is everyone trying to hide something about her?"
"She is already here, and since her return, I and Ray have not been the same, so, I deserve to know who exactly she is in his life."
"I didn't know she was back," Margi responded.
"She was once his wife."
Margi had dropped that bomb on her. She froze and almost lost every ability to put herself in any form of motion. Being married before is not a crime or a big deal, but she had expected Raymond to say something about it. She had expected Raymond to see the need to let her know that. But he skipped through that and instead went on a private meeting with his ex-wife and came home drunk.
Margi must have noticed her shock because she now added consolidating words.
"It was a long time ago, they were young and stupid."
"He was in love and not thinking right."
"It was a secret marriage because his father wouldn't approve of it."
Amanda's senses had begun to come back, she could finally move her hands and speak again. This was not because of Margi's words, but because her brain had queries that needed answers.
"For how long were they married?" She asked in a cold low tone.
"A couple of months was barely six months."
"Marriage wasn't the same as being in a relationship." Margin continued.
"It's sad they had to find out the wrong way." She added.
"They had too many arguments,"
"Rebecca had become even more in love with him, she became obsessed with him and it became unsafe for him and people close to him."
Amanda now reflected on the letters she had found in Ray's closet. "Till death do us part"
She might have literally meant it and not used those words just for the sake of wording. She might still be in love with him and that just made her weak and angry at the same time.
"She was infatuated with the thought of him, and she became a treat to anyone of the opposite sex that he became close with."
Amanda thought Rebecca had a very deceitful smile, and how she looked calm and collected, but she might actually be a sociopath.
Was she to be scared about her?
Ray sat in the back seat of his Porsche SUV, Scott drove him, his head was pounding from being drunk last night.
He was on his way to his lawyers as they had some talking to get into.
He was having some little flashes from the night before, he remembered his discussion with Rebecca, he remembered getting drunk, and he remembered calling Scott to come to pick him up. He remembered Amanda leading him upstairs, giving him a wash before putting him to bed.
His heart sank at her thought and how she would take the development. She deserved nothing but happiness.
Yesterday was just a lot for him, so he had to make himself forget with liquor.
But the problem with forgetting with the aid of liquor was that it doesn't last. Your problem would come ringing the next morning.
