Chapter eight

Kendall walked into the office of her old-time friend judge, Amy Paul.

She did not need to knock as she had called the judge earlier to inform her of her arrival.

And as she pulled the knob forward and entered she was greeted by a warm smile.

Who had drooped all she was doing as her friend walked in?

"Hello amy, how are you doing my lord", she said teasingly.

I am fine she replied, with a smile.

How have you been?

I have been fine too.

Really? You only come here when you have trouble with something.

Oh no, I do not have any trouble yet.

Really!

"Okay, I have this case mr Antonio my client was served on the twenty-fourth."

And I would be letting one of my junior colleagues handle it, but seriously I would like the case to be an open and shut one, it would be easier for everybody.

"I will see what I can do but you know if your client has substantial evidence against him there is nothing I can do.

"Yes I know, there is none I promise." She assured the judge.

"Okay, fine it's almost time for my lunch she said looking at the clock will you like to join me she said aloud.

Yes, certainly I would love to.

As they left the office the two ladies talked about cases that were infamous in the legal field and occasionally laughed at instances where the cases were all too funny.

Kendall thought as she walked with amy how she felt yesterday when Antonio came to her office and how he looked at her, there was something about him that sent shudders down her spine and also at the same time made her crave him.

But his reputation would tarnish hers if there was ever anything between them.

Yes, amy she said pulling out of her thoughts, what would you like to have the young man has been waiting for your order.

Ohh I will just have the usual and a bottle of wine brought over.

Are you celebrating something Kendall? Amy asked.

I just want to have wine with you it's not every day you seat with a renowned judge having lunch in a fancy restaurant.

Yes, true, and said with her mouth full, I think you are the elite here Kendall you have mastered the legal world too much for comfort.

You have one of the biggest firms and all the kids leaving any ivy league school tick your firm as the number one dream choice.

Isn't it crazy they all have you in mind all at once, or maybe it's some academic hullabaloo that strikes them?

I don't know amy, I guess everyone wants the good life so.........

You handle most government deals and still handle those of the cronies without any hitch.

Girl, I have been thinking of joining you too she said, as they both laughed and continued eating.

When the waiter brought the tab, Kendall gave her a card and smiled at amy.

She just didn't like others paying her bill and she wants amy to follow up with her earlier issue.

She knew she would and she planned on getting her something tangible after everything was over maybe a month after, a designer bag or shoe something no one would notice any had lots of those.

Also, the gift was a thank you as she knew amy had been faithful to her growth.

After leaving school she vowed to be the best and own her firm, after a few rough patches and covering for drug dealers and murderers she had become the envy of all lawyers in New York and outside.

She thought about those early years as she walked out of the restaurant with amy, who was busy on a call and didn't notice amy was lost.

Kendall, I have an emergency meeting I need to attend I will see you later with that she got into a cab and left after pecking Kendall on the cheek.

As she hurried on Kendall's key bottom on her Royce got in and drove off.

She had jhene Aiko on her stereo and mumbled along, her phone rang and it was one of her junior colleagues.

Hello, Edmond what is it? She inquired.

Sorry, ma'am I just need a file from hour office I was wondering if you would be coming back today.

Yes, I will, I will be there in twenty minutes .she said hanging up.

What file was he in need of, she had forgotten to ask him.

And there was traffic now she needed to find a space and redirect her car into the freeway.

That would help her get to her destination faster but the sides had been blocked by impatient drivers.

So she just relaxed and let the music keep her company.

Amy got to her office early she had forgotten she had a hearing scheduled for three, it was a case of arson and property damage and since no life was lost she knew the culprit if found guilty would pay for damages and spend time in a correctional facility for his crime.

It was a simple case as the police have already done their job and she knew to bring him to court meant he had done it, but it had to be proven beyond doubt in front of witnesses, and she was to be the judge as always.

Kendall got to the office and she was pissed and barked orders at the top of her voice as she saw some of her employees were busy chatting while there was work to do, it was Chris and Paula, sadly two of her finest.

Normally she would send them away, but these have earned their seat at her table but she would not tolerate it.

She called them both to order and walked briskly to meet Edmond who sprung to her office door when he saw her, he was seated at the seater in front of her Secretary Jenner.

What file do you want she asked looking him in the eye, as beads of cold sweat ran down his spine?

She had that aura that made her workers feel intimidated even tho she played nice almost all the time.
