He walked straight into the clear greenish-blue water and as he did he soaked himself in it and stayed there for a while before resurfacing.

He raised his head  gasping for air he took long breathes and went back down and this time was there for a longer time before he raised his head back up,

He looked towards the house and slowly dragged himself out of the water took off his clothes and went back in for a swim.

He went a considerable distance before staying in the water allowing it to sway with, and then he swam back to shore.
