Liar! What Happened To You?

“Do you mind me serving you something to eat?” Ify asked her boyfriend, Odenigbo. He shook his head. He didn’t want to eat. He would soon be leaving. Ify tried to persuade to eat and also spend some more time with her. But he told her he couldn’t. Unless she wanted to leave with him and spend the night with him. “Ok! I will go with you!” She said.

“Are you serious?” He asked Ify. She nodded saying she was. “Whoa! What has changed you? You wouldn’t go with me if it was before”. Odenigbo said. Ify smiled. She was actually tired of staying with someone who refuses to talk with her. She felt bad about Lanre’s attitude. Even if she had a fight with someone, she shouldn’t act like everyone is her enemy.

“Hey guys! Sorry I wasn’t talking earlier, I was having a smelling mouth and needed so bad to brush my mouth”. Lanre said coming to join the couple’s in the living room. Ify looked surprised seeing Lanre coming out and was also talking to them.

“Lanre what’s up?” Odenigbo asked. Lanre looked up and said, “The ceiling is preventing me from seeing the sky, so I do not know if the sun is still up or the moon has taken over”. Lanre said dryly. “You know if you had added more life to that joke, it would have been really funny”. Odenigbo said.

Lanre rolled her eyes and told him that it was exactly what are wanted, that nobody laughs. She told them she was not a comedian. Then she stood up from the couch and went to the kitchen. Ify followed behind.

“Lanre, what’s up na? Sorry for yelling at you earlier on”. Ify said apologising. Lanre looks at her with the “why are you even apologising” look. Then Ify asked her why she had the mark on her face. “I slapped myself! I slapped myself real hard just to kill mosquito. Before I realised that it was my face I was going to slap, it already landed. Then she laughed after saying that to Ify.

“Liar! What happened to you?” Ify asked Lanre again. But Lanre was like, “I already told you!”. Ify asked her if it was Chibuzor that did that to her. But Lanre told her that it was an accident. She made up a story of she going to stop two people from fighting and a slap meant for one person landed on her cheek.

“What happened to your clothes?” Ify asked. “Nothing! I just felt like I should wear that shirt. It belongs to a friend”. She said. Ify wants to really believe Lanre but something told her she was lying. Then she asked about the guitar. Instead of answering, Lanre asked Ify if her mother had called her. But Ify told her she had turned off her phone so she wouldn’t have received any call if her mother had done that. Ify turned to leave the kitchen.

“Ify!” Lanre called. Ify stood and looked at her. “Sorry for keeping mute at you!”. Lanre said to Ify.
