She Would Find Him Out

“Why are you laughing? Am I not qualified to like you?” Okechukwu asked her. She stopped laughing and kissed his cheek. “Don’t worry, we will see tonight whether or not you are qualified”. She said and left him standing like a statue. He placed his hand on his cheek where Lanre has just kissed him. Could he be dreaming. Lanre of all people kissed his cheek. She didn’t even insult him as he thought she would when he told her he has had feelings for her since their first year in the school. It seems he was graduating with good luck. Okechukwu could not stop himself from smiling sheepishly. His heart was in great merriment.

.................................

“Where did you go to?” Ify asked Lanre when the two met each other on the way. It seems Ify was looking for Lanre, while Lanre was just returning from where she was with Okechukwu.

“I was just around. Why? Were you looking for me?” Lanre asked Ify. Ify told her she was actually looking for her that Odenigbo was there to pick her up. He was taking her out for a congratulatory date. Lanre wished her luck and then waved her good bye. Now she was alone. She thought if she should just go back and stay with Okechukwu or she should just leave and go to the house. After much thought on it, she decided to go home. There was no need staying with Okechukwu when they will meet at night. She carried herself and walked home.

On getting to the house, took off her clothes. “Thank God I did not put on white for anybody to sign on”. She said. She was relieved she had no marker on her clothes. She feels that practice where students put on white and let people write on it with a marker is dirty. She wore something loose and lied down on the bed. She decided to call her mom and tell her she was done with her exams and was left to defend her project.

Mrs Olayinka shouted for joy over the phone that Lanre was forced to put the phone away from her ear. But she knew that her mother was just overwhelmed with joy that her daughter was going to be a graduate in less than a month.

“Mammi! I will be hanging up now. Odabo!” She said to her mom before ending the call. But before she ended the call, her mother told her to call her elder brother who was in the navy. She searched out his number only to put it on dial, and saw that the call cannot be activated at the moment. She wondered what was wrong until she saw an incoming call. It was a private number calling. She wondered who will call her with a private number. But she took it anyway. But she didn’t say s thing. She was waiting for the caller to be the first to talk. She would find him out if it is somebody she knows.
