My Brother Likes You

Ify smirks. “I do not know why you ran away from church o! As you are now, you are mommy G.O herself. See if you like, run 360 degrees away from church, your husband is going to be a pastor”. Ify said to Lanre. She would always tell Lanre this whenever they start talking about anything related to church.

“I do not want, so I won’t get such. I don’t want people monitoring my lifestyle. I want someone that can be free to take me to places. I want someone I can travel with, whenever and wherever”. Lanre said. Ify laughed and told her she was going to get a mobile man of God for a husband, one who travels every time to different places in the world to give sermons. She can travel along with him. “Are you cursing me or what?” Lanre asked feigning annoyance. “In fact, I will marry your brother since you are wishing me a pastor”. Lanre said. She was shocked at the quick way Ify said her Amen.

“Are you for real Ify? You want me to marry your brother?” Lanre asked. Ify nodded her head in positive affirmation. Lanre didn’t know how to reply Ify. She wasn’t sure if Ify was serious. So she just looked away from Ify and heaved a sigh. “I am tired of sitting down!” can we get to Abuja already!?” Lanre said yawning while closing her eyes.

“Lanre, I am serious! My brother really likes you. Just that he is shy”. Ify said.

“My brother likes you too!” Lanre said to Ify trying to make her words meaningless. Ify told her to stop. Then she asked her why she did not ask her which of her brother she was talking about. Lanre turned to face Ify giving her a fake smile ensuring Ify was aware she was actually giving her a fake smile. “It is better I don’t know so I do not start retreating from your brother”. Lanre said. “So save the information for me. Thank you!” Lanre said again. Ify twisted her lips and shrugged. Maybe she should just leave Lanre for now and then try again some other time.

“Finally!” Lanre exclaimed when they finally landed in Abuja. They boarded off the plane. She looked at Ify briefly then looked away immediately. They have not spoken a word to each other since after Ify told her about her brother liking her. “She will get past it”. Lanre said within herself. There was no way she will want to have a relationship with her best friend’s brother. If she has issues with him, who will Ify support, her or her brother? If her brother end up proposing to her if at all and she ends up saying no to him, will she not hate her for it. It may scatter their friendship and she wouldn’t want that. So she decided that she will make sure she avoids such. But Ify didn’t see it that way. She saw how bonded they will be if her brother marries her best friend who her mother likes.
