Anita’s mother sat next to Lanre and placed her hand on her back. “Sorry my dear, I’ve been carried away by joy. Hope you are ok? Do you want to go back to the house. Gozie could drop you off”. The woman said to Lanre. It was annoying to Lanre that the woman won’t stop.
“It is ok ma! I can actually manage”. Lanre replied. Then she told the woman she was going to the rest room. Anita’s mother told her to be careful since occasions like these petty thieves could be roaming around even though there was security.
Lanre told the woman not to worry. It was not like she was going outside the building. The woman told gave her a particular time limit to which she was to stay away.
“Ify in the next ten minutes I do not see you, I will assume something has happened”. The woman said. Lanre hummed. Then she stood up taking her bag in her hand and left the hall.
Meanwhile K kept his eyes focused on her. So when he saw her walking away, he stood up. The first thing he did was to go meet his friend, the groom. He whispered into his ears and left.
“Where is he going to?” Anita asked her husband. Michael told her he has no idea except that something important came up.
“I told you before that you should give this best man part to someone else, but you refused. Is he coming back?” She asked him. He told her he was not sure if K would come back. Anita sighed.
Then she asked him who was going to do the best man’s part. But Michael told her let it get to that time first. If they do not cancel it, someone else would do it. But Anita was not happy.
Michael tried to convince her that it was all ok. But she would not be convinced. He even told her it was not necessary that a speech should be given. But that was not what actually bothered her.
She was searching for Lanre with her eyes, but she could not find her. And now K has gone out. She took a deep breath. “Anita, let’s drop this K’s fantasy! You are married now”. She said in her head to herself.
Meanwhile, Lanre had gone away from the hall. She stood in the hallway wondering where to go. She needed some quiet. She placed a hand on her hair which was left in her natural afro with a design in front that made it look like it was fixed on. She had told the hair stylist she needed her natural hair on. She had refused to fix something else on it.
“Are you lost?” A male voice reached her ears. She blew some air out then she turned to face the person who just asked her if she was lost.
“No I am not! Thank you for your concern;” she said to him. She did recognise him. But she did not show it. She has seen him from when the bride and the groom exchanged their vows.
