K was the first to join the party again after he has been dismissed by the Governor. Christian came close to K. It seems he has been waiting for K all this while to come out. He held K’s shoulder from behind.
“Your girl just walked in! She looked elegant”. Christian said to K. K pushed Christian’s hand away from his shoulder.
“You are a jerk, I would have given you a task to carry out. But you won’t do for the job”. K said and walked away. He had just seen his sister seated at a table. It seems her fiancé is around.
He sat next sat on the empty seat on the table. “Nice seeing you here Austin Caraway! Sorry I’m yet to congratulate you on your engagement with my sister. But I won’t fail to be at the wedding. When are you coming to see us?” K said. It seems he was there to taunt his sister and her white man, Austin.
Temitope looks at K disapprovingly. She knew of they continue he will only end up telling Austin that their culture didn’t fit. Just like their mother, K didn’t care about her love life. He did not welcome Austin as the man she wants to marry. Or maybe it’s because he liked her least of everyone in the family.
“Kehinde, should you not be with your fiancée?” Temitope asked. K replied by asking her if she meant his fiancée to be. She told him there was not any difference. Then she pointed behind him.
“Oh! There she is? And is that her sister?” Temitope said. Then she stood up and made K to stand up as well threatening him that of he didn’t , she would go out of proportion by drawing everyone’s attention to them.
“You may not like being the Governor’s son, but I’m sure you do like being the center of attention in the negative”. Temitope said to her brother. K had no choice but to stand up. While Temitope literally dragged him to Ify who was being led to her seat.
“Oh my! You are here! My brother had almost die not seeing you here. He has been taunting me while waiting for you to arrive”. Temitope said halting Ify. Then she pulled the girl by Ify’s side whom she believe was Ify’s sister. But she was in fact Lanre.
Lanre smiled and followed Temitope without hesitating. But what struck K was that she didn’t look at him. She did not even say hi. She just walked away with his sister as though she knew the sister not him. He mentally cursed his sister for taking the woman he actually wanted to see away from him.
Meanwhile Lanre was glad to have left Kehinde’s presence. She could not stand it. She did not know who she hated right now, Kehinde’s sister who spew up those words of Kehinde missing Ify? Or if she should hate Kehinde for letting this happen? Or Ify for letting this happen? Or if she should hate herself for letting go of Kehinde?
