Is She Supposed To Fight?

Lanre felt a surge of hatred building up in her heart. She didn’t know if it was towards the estranged husband of the woman who is crying before her, or it was directed towards the woman who was crying over a man that has no value for her.

“So, you want a makeover in order to impress him?” Lanre asked. The woman gave her exactly the answer she knew she would. She was indeed doing the makeover to impress her husband. She was ready to fight and do anything to keep her husband.

Lanre scoffed. “While you are doing this, I hope you will put this in mind”. Lanre said going to stand in front of the woman. She squatted before going on to give the woman a piece of advice which she believes the woman needs.

“Men may cheat, but when it becomes his hobby, he has an incurable disease. Nothing you do will keep him glued to you. You are a beautiful woman ma, and if he thinks you are not, it is only a lame excuse for his infidelity. No offence, but you should not kill yourself while trying to win him for yourself”. Lanre said then she stood up.

The woman took to thought what Lanre has said to her. She did that even when Aaron has brought the wine and poured her a glass. She did the same even as she sipped from the wine in the glass. Then she shook her head. She dropped the glass on the small stool placed beside her.

“I will go on with this makeover!” She said as though she knew Lanre was coming in. “I have to fight for what is mine”. The woman said. Lanre on hearing this gave a signal to Aaron. She asked him to work on the woman’s hair after Sharon was done with the pedicure and manicure treatment. Aaron immediately understood that Lanre was asking him to call Sharon to come begin her work since she was not present with them but was in the first room. So Aaron went on to call Sharon. While Lanre told the woman her workers will take care of her hair and her nails while she would take care of her face.

The woman asked Lanre if she could trust her workers. Lanre told her that she would not hire a person she can’t trust to do a perfect job. Then she sat down. “I will see to it myself that they do a perfect job”. Lanre said to the woman. This made the woman relived.

While watching the woman get her nails treated, Lanre wondered why she would fight for something that is hers if it is actually hers when that thing is neither motionless nor dump. Why fight to keep a man when he is capable of making decisions and keeping his words just as much as he is capable of playing people and dishonouring his words? Lanre thought on this matter. This made her remember Christian asking if she was letting go without a fight.

“Is she supposed to fight? For what exactly? For a man or his money? Or for a feeling that isn’t mutual?”
