Chidinma literally screened K with her eyes. She thought he looked quite decent enough. But there were no decent guy until he is proved. She asked him who he was.
“Who are you? Your name, job and why are you looking for her?” Chidinma asked. K was taken aback. Was this teenager actually interrogating him?
“Do you know her or not? And please show me her apartment”. K said to her. Chidinma hissed and shut the door in his face telling him he was not ready. This left K surprised. The girl was rude. K shook his head trying to come off the shock. He went to the next apartment to talk even though in his head, he was so sure that that was Lanre’s apartment.
“So I’m literally doing what Chris said?” K muttered. He chuckled, then he comported himself before knocking on the door. It was an elderly man that opened. He greeted the man before asking about Lanre. He ended up describing Lanre over and over again to the man but the old man kept saying he does not know her. According to the old man K was describing exactly what a maami water will look like. And there was no way a maami water will enter a compound where they always sprinkle holy water.
K faced palm himself. He turned away from the apartment and went to the third apartment which happened to be the last apartment. He knocked on the door as well. This time, it was a young man that came outside.
“Please do you know Lanre? I think she lives in this building. She is tall, fair in complexion and has a slender figure”. K said. He did not realize the young man was only putting on boxers until he heard a female voice from inside the apartment calling after the young man.
“Yetunde, are you going to leave me naked like this? I will wear my clothe e o!” She said ending her statement with an exclamation that is usually added to a statement by most Yoruba’s. Yetunde told her to wait that he was coming.
Then he walked out of the door post and stood outside. He pointed towards the gate. “If you comot from this gate, go left (If you walk out of this gate, take a left turn). You will see madam Kuli Kuli (a local snack made from groundnut paste), ask her say where Lanre de stay (ask her where Lanre lives). She will show you”. The young man said. Then he turned to go back in. But K stopped him.
“Are you sure?” K asked him.
“Ehen! (Exclamation) Abi no be that fat black girl when done bleach herself finish? (Is it not that fat black girl who bleached her skin?). That one when de like roasted bole (Her skin is like roasted plantain). Na she na (she’s the one). Oga please go there make you no disturb me o (Sir, please go and don’t disturb me”. Yetunde said and slammed the door after going inside.
