A Lesbian

Lanre stood up and went out of her office. She stood with a smirk on her lips. It seems everyone has been coming to her lately, everyone connected to K. She walked closer to Christian who stood looking at her with a smile on his lips. She was not expecting to see him, but it was not going to be a disaster if she welcomes him like she knows him, exactly how it is supposed to be.

“Mr. Chris, friend to……. Oh sorry! I shouldn’t get the ladies flagging over you”. Lanre said with her hand to her mouth as if she had made a mistake. Then she asked him what brought him to her shop.

“I’m here to take you out for lunch. I thought I should spend my day with a beautiful woman”. Christian said. Lanre pretended to be flattered. Then she told h to have a seat and wait for her since she has a customer she can’t just ditch at the moment. Christian nods his head and took a seat.

“Uduak, what do you think? Is he not handsome?” Sharon whispered into the ears of her colleague Uduak, another female worker in the beauty parlour.

“E be like say na madam guy be that o (It seems he is madam’s boyfriend”. Udauk said to Sharon. And when Sharon told her it was not true, she advised Sharon to get her eyes off Christian because she was sure he’s Lanre’s man.

“Is like you have not noticed, our madam does not have interest in men. I think she is a lesbian”. Sharon whispered into Uduaks ears again. Uduak found it amusing. Then as if she had caught something, she gasped with her hand immediately covering her mouth.

“No wonder! She has Chidinma in her house and they are not even relatives. One day, Chidinma told me that she loves our madam”. Uduak said to Sharon. Sharon immediately placed a finger on Uduak’s lips shushing her up.

“No allow anybody hear you, I use God name and him pikin name take beg you”. Sharon said telling Udauk not to mention what they just talked about to anyone, going as far as begging her in God’s name.

“Wetin you de try talk? I no be aproko na. (What are you trying to say? I’m not a gossip)”. Uduak said to Sharon. This made Sharon scoff. She knew all too well that what they had just done was gossip. And Uduak was worst. Moreover, it was their employer they had just gossiped about. So it will be a disaster if Lanre should found out about their little gossip.

Christian thought Lanre would make it snappy since someone was waiting for her, but she did not just attend to her customer who was waiting before he came, she attended to all her customers for the day. And their lunch turned into dinner.

Lanre’s workers started to believe Christian is her boyfriend because he patiently waited for her till evening when she finally finished making up her clients. Most of them who came in the evening were going on a date. They had the money, so they could afford coming to the beauty parlour to their makeup done.
