Lanre could not help but laugh in K’s car. “You are naughty I swear!” Lanre said to K on their way back. K smirked. He told her that she should be thanking him, if not for his lies, she would have had to go through series of screening by different people like a stock that just arrived the market.
“But don’t you think you went too far? I’m not your wife, I can forgive that you said that on two different occasion. But me being pregnant? Are you for real?” Lanre said glaring at him. K told her he only said she was his wife at the hotel. His step-grandmother only thought she was his wife because she came with him.
“And seriously Lanre! I did not tell her you are pregnant. I only told her you needed to sit down because of your condition. It is not like you didn’t play along, you did it all pretty too well”. K said to her. She bit her lips feigning annoyance. Then she told him to focus on driving since it was not safe to talk while driving. A scheme to avoid the topic.
K smirked with satisfaction. He sped up a bit. He felt happy as though he has just finished the best adventure of his life.
On getting to Lagos, the hold up was pretty much. “K, why don’t you go out with body guards since you are the Governor’s son? Dangerous people could target you in order to get at the Governor”. Lanre said.
K told her he did not want stress nor did he want unnecessary attention. According to him, his relationship was with Adekunle Adewale and not with the Governor of Lagos state.
“You seem to hate it that your father is the Governor, why?” Lanre asked out of curiosity. K told her that it was because of the corruption. If the Governor is not as corrupt as the other officials, he either shuts his eyes to their evil activities or join them. There’s no beating them especially if they are in the same political party.
“They make me sick! I kinda hate politics because of them. Dad wants me to join”. K said to Lanre. Lanre asked him why he was yet to join as though she had not heard him when he said he kinda hates politics. K looked at her but immediately puts his eyes back on the road. He would not want to be distracted when the vehicles start moving.
“Because those there are majorly corrupt doesn’t mean you should develop apathy. Politics is good. It is the only way changes can come as much as it has been the major way evil has raised our country. If you have a good intention and there are ten thousand more people with good intention out there, you could start a good fight”. Lanre said. K told her he was not good. He wouldn’t want to join politics either.
“You talk as though you would want to go into politics yourself”. K said to Lanre.
