Everyone Does Have A Secret

Lanre was offered a seat right opposite the women leader’s. “What’s your name?” The women leader asked Lanre. Her eyes scanned Lanre as though she would even see into Lanre’s past and future.

“Olanrewaju!” Lanre said. The woman asked her if she was throwing away her surname since she did not give her her surname as well. Lanre had to tell her her surname.

“So Olanrewaju Olayinka, you want to see the women coordinator of Lagos, am I right?” The woman asked. Lanre told her if she was not right then they won’t be sitting opposite each other not to even talk of talking to each other. The woman smiled.

“Hope you are as smart as your mouth?” The woman asked. Lanre told her she would not be here if she was not. The woman laughed out this time around. She crossed her legs and one could tell she was looking proud.

“Alhaja Fatima is not a woman to be messed with. Even though you are smart, you must not mess with me”. The woman said to her. Lanre told her to be rest assured she won’t do anything as longer as she also do not mess with her.

“I like your guts! What is it exactly you say you want?” Alhaja Fatima asked Lanre. Lanre told her she wanted a good spot where she could just stretch her neck and see what is going on in the government house. The woman shook her head.

“Children asking for bone when their eat can’t even bite into a fish”. The woman said in parables. She was referring to Lanre as someone who was asking for what is greater than her. Lanre smirked. She may look small, but once she puts her mind into doing something, she makes sure she does it to the finish.

“Sometimes a child need to play with the bones until he can chew it”. Lanre said. The woman laughed. She asked Lanre what part of the region she came from.

“Ibadan!”. The woman told her she was not even from Lagos and yet she wanted to get entangled with Lagos politics.

“It takes staying in Lagos to be a Lagosian! So I am qualified to enter into Lagos politics”. Lanre said assertively. The woman hits her palm on the small stool that was beside her forgetting it was made of glass.

“Do you know what you are asking of? I’m only listening to your crap because Senator Ojo brought you here himself. But it seems you want to dig a soil you do not belong to. Get out!” The woman said visibly angry. But Lanre didn’t move an inch. She sat there as though she had a guarantee the woman would not do anything even if she did not move. The woman threatened to call security on her, but she maintained her position on the chair.

“Everyone does have a secret! But the secrets of the rich and high is always deadly. It could take their breath away”. Lanre muttered.
