“What did he say?” Mrs. Okafor asked immediately after Anita’s call with Gozie had ended. Anita relayed the expected news to her mother that her second son will be returning to Nigeria as soon as possible. The woman wore a smile on her face, one that express relief. At least she was done with stage one. She told Anita to keep on with the act until Gozie returns. Anita assured her mother she would do her best. Then she excused herself from her mother’s presence saying she would love to go see her old room since she misses it.
“Won’t you stay with your mother and talk for a while before you do any other thing?” The mother asked. Anita flashed her mother a smile and then she told her no, she was not ready to sit beside an old fashion lady.
“Did you just call me an old fashion lady?” Mrs. Okafor asked her daughter. Anita did not deny it. She told her mom the prank she just pulled off was old fashioned. Then she walked out of her mother’s sight. Immediately she got to her old room, the one she used to stay in before she got married, she pulls out her phone to make a call.
“Kehinde, are you stupid? After making me go through so much stress in making a total stranger my maid of honour and suffering a fight with my best friend, you pull up this stunt by engaging my cousin sister?” Anita said over the phone. K told her he would call her back and immediately hanged up. Anita stomped her foot violently on the ground and threw herself on the bed that has not be laid on months.
……………………..
“That sounded like Anita”. Lanre said. K nods his head with a single hum escaping his lips. Lanre bit her lips. So, the “her” she was talking about, is she referring to me?” Lanre asked. K told her she should ignore what she heard. Lanre scoffs. Then she bit her lips again. She suddenly burst out into laughter like a maniac.
“Wow! Wow! Just wow!” She said putting but of her palms over her face.
K had dropped Chidinma off and had pleaded to stay back for a while since he was a little bit tired. And Lanre lets him because his body temperature was still high. But who would have thought she would be able to witness such an epic story of her life that she was never aware of. She used to think Anita had wanted her to be her maid of honour because of her beauty as stated to her by Ify. But who the hell would have thought it was all K’s idea. But then she still did not end up as the maid of honour for Anita. Now she gets to understand why Anita was not that welcoming and did not trust her much. It was K’s doing that she was in Abuja, and K was Anita’s friend. Lanre stood up abruptly from the couch she was sitting on right next to K’s.
