“You will be working as the make-up artist in the film that will be shooting soon, “Anger strikes again”, a film Femi Olatunji will be directing, so I thought I could get something about you so I can make your name the next highlight on my blog”. The lady said to Lanre who just stared at her wondering if she should talk. Then the lady gave her a sign that they were on camera. Lanre almost dropped the glass in her hand. Did this lady just invade her privacy?
“Sorry, but I do not know your name”. Lanre said with a smile. The lady thought it weird that Lanre does not know her name, but she told her anyways.
“I’m Laura White!” The lady replied.
“I doubt that’s your real name!” Lanre muttered. Neither Pascal nor Laura White heard what she said.
“I did not start on my own! I started with my mother’s blessing. I got through it with my madam’s blessing as well. She thought me well”. Lanre said to Laura with a smile gracing her lips. The lady had not expected such an answer.
“You are a graduate, my friend told me you attended the University of Nigeria Nsukka. Did you utilize your skill at the university or you just went to school and rely on your pocket money while in school?” Laura asked.
“Who relies on pocket money alone to survive in school? Unless your parents are wealthy”. Lanre said. Then she told Laura she did makeup during special functions and on most weekends to support herself. According to her it is not every time her mom attends urgently to her needs. So she would use the money she earns to attend to her own needs most of the time.
“Sometimes my roommate would help out when I don’t have at all and my mom delays. So yes, I did utilise my skills but it’s not every time you get patronised”. Lanre said.
“Your roommate must have been nice”. Laura said. Lanre told her that her roommate was indeed nice.
“I think she was too nice though, too nice for such niceness to be real”. Lanre said smiling. Laura asked her how many people she has working under her. Lanre told her she sees them as colleagues not employees. So they make a team of eight people her inclusive. Ebitari was not left out as she was actually working at the beauty parlour now. Laura compliments Lanre for the way she looked at her workers as colleagues. Then she asked Lanre if she has anything she wants to tell the world.
“I didn’t come here expecting an interview. But I will say this one thing, life will never offer you anything you never gave to it, directly or indirectly. Choose wisely what you give out to life, so you don’t get what you do not wish from it, because wishes never come true. Only action does”.
Laura asked her if she writes poems since she spoke that way, Lanre told her she has never thought of doing that even for leisure.
