Do You Want To Take That Risk?

K took a deep breath. He looked at his mother as if wanting to say something, but the words were still finding a way to come out of his mouth. He squats down and took his mother’s hand.

“Do not interfer with my relationship either. Whether or not I will marry Ify is now up to me. Do not make the mistake of making her leave. You don’t know what would happen if you do”. K said and walked out of the house. Olasile placed her hand on her cheek to feel the tears on it. Was she really losing control over her children? Was her only daughter actually really getting married without telling her?

“Ah! Mogbé! I’m finished!” Olasile said with her hands on her head. She could not believe it. She immediately reached for her phone to call her husband the Governor. She does not care if he is probably in a meeting right now or not. She has to call him to prevent this disaster from occurring. Other women her class will laugh at her. She would lose her face before them if this should happen.

She became furious after several trials and her husband did not answer his phone. She wonders what it would take him to attend to his wife’s call. She got tired of trying to reach him and placed her phone down. She felt heavy in her heart.

“Ma, are you okay?” It was Ify. She walked up to Olasile wanting to know if she could comfort the woman seeing she looked bothered. K had wanted her to come with him while leaving but she refused. She wanted to explain everything to Olasile. She wanted the woman to believe her that she has nothing to do with that guy and that somebody was probably trying to set her up.

Olasile without answering Ify eyes her disapprovingly and stood up to leave.

“Ma, I swear that I do not know that young man. I think someone wants to ruin my relationship with K”. Ify said. The woman halted. She turned to face Ify.

“Whether you are telling the truth or not, I do not think it matters anymore. It’s not like you are very profitable to this family. Even if my son marries you, I will make sure he gets another wife as well. A wife that will be profitable to my husband and I, especially to my Son, Kehinde”. Olasile said. The reason she had agreed to go see Ify parents and fixed her son’s marriage with her was because of the position Ify’s mother holds in CBN. But that was useless now. The woman had made it clear to her that she was not going to be working with her, so how was Ify now profitable to them? It took her until now to realise this. She told Ify to tell K she was not going to marry him anymore and that she should leave.

“Do you want to take that risk? I doubt!” Ify said to Olasile. She suddenly seem to have gained courage.
