Thank You For Not Giving Up

Lanre tells Anita she hopes Michael doesn’t get to beat her up or cheat on her again. Lanre left when she was tired of staying at the hospital with Anita. Anita had wanted her to stay back but Lanre was thickheaded. She told Anita she was too busy to spend anymore time with her. So Anita had no other choice but to let Lanre do what she wants.

“Hey!” Michael said and kissed Anita on her forehead. This was after Lanre left. He held her hand and caressed it. The doctor had said Anita would still stay an extra week in the hospital under supervision. They wouldn’t want anything to go wrong after discharging her since Michael was insisting she gets discharged the next day. But when he heard there could be complications of she is discharged earlier than a week time, he had no option but to listen to the doctor.

“I am tired of staying in the hospital. But I’m willing to sacrifice this extra one week for you”. Michael said. Anita smiled at him. How natural her smile came brought tears to her eyes.

“Michael!” She called. He looked at her with a smile on his lips. She asked him to promise her he would not allow anyone be the reason their marriage should suffer. He promised her. He told her he was never ever going to let anything come between them.

“I love you Michael”. Anita said. Michael kissed the palm of her hand. He kissed the back of her palm. He felt a thong in his heart.

“I feel guilty right now Ani! I should get Philomena arrested”. He said. Anita told him not to. She told him it was his fault this happened and that she has forgiven him he should also forgive himself as well. She told him she was feeling sleepy and would like to sleep.

“Are you going to sleep without eating? I already asked the nurse to bring in food for you to eat”. Michael said to her. Anita told him what she want is to sleep first. She would eat after she has slept enough. Michael let’s her. He watched her sleep. Looking at her, somehow he wants to thank Philomena and his jackass self for making him realise he loves his wife and was not ready to lose her.

“Thank you for not giving up. From now onward, I will give you the life you deserve”. He said to an already sleeping Anita. He watched her all through till when she finally woke up. He told himself he was not leaving her side. And he meant it well enough. He was not leaving her side, not even literally. So he didn’t mind the many business meetings he has missed. He did not care about business deals he missed out on. He did not care about the opportunities he has allowed to slip off his hand. He wants to make his marriage, and this is a part of it, where he starts from.
