“I knew something like this will happen. The Governor must have been acting when he said his wife will get served what she deserved for her crime and that the case was being investigated. Politics is a very dirty game in Nigeria aunty Lanre. I’m sure that lady was paid to do what she did”. Eno said to Lanre when they were watching the news on TV. Lanre kept quiet. While Eno went on and on about how corrupt the country is and how evil most of the politicians are. She told Lanre she doubts there could ever be hope for the country to have good leaders again from the lowest sector to the highest and in all arms of government.
Lanre smiled. She told Eno to start having a positive mind. She told Eno if good people come together and the rest of the citizens should give them their full support then the country would have good leaders again even though they all can’t be good people in a house. Eno nodded her head. Her face was contorted in a way that suggests she was thinking deeply on what Lanre said. Lanre excused herself from the living room and went to the room she has been using since her stay in Christian’s house. She opened her phone and made her phone call.
“Senator Ojo, how is this happening? Did the Governor buy the commissioner? What if he gives out your name that you have been giving him biscuit to make sure his wife remained in cell?” Lanre asked Senator Ojo immediately the man picked. The man laughed on the other side of the phone. He told Lanre not to worry about it. He assured her the commissioner would dare not do that si de he will end up implicating himself. Lanre nods.
“It is a good thing the woman has been released. You should get back inside. I want information about the Governor’s every private move. You can get it from the wife. Make sure you keep me informed”. Senator Ojo said. Lanre asked him why.
“The Governor has less than two years to remain in seat but we are already tired of him. We were thinking of impeachment, but the mule is too stubborn. Now, wouldn’t it be better to kill it?” Senator Ojo said. Lanre almost dropped her phone. It seems they want to kill the Governor. She could do anything but not getting her hand involved in someone’s death. But then she could not say no. She has her own plans. She will quietly continue with it while feigning agreement with senator Ojo on this one.
“Okay! I will keep you informed on their every movement. But I hope you do know I’m starting my service in two weeks time?” Lanre asked Senator Ojo. He laughed. He told her not to worry that he has arranged for someone to go to camp in place of her. She will only appear when necessary if at all. But she doesn’t need to serve for it to be on the records that she served.
