K grabbed Lanre’s arms. He pushed her into the car seat. He told her to never insult him again. He told her he had a right to tell her to abort a child that was not his because the only baby she would be allowed to carry would be his. Lanre chuckled. Rather than loving how assertive and possessive he was towards her, she hated it. She hated him. Christian was not like this. He was willing to accept the responsibility knowing it was not his child even though he was not sure she would let him be her man. But here’s K asking her to abort the pregnancy without having a clue who the actual father of the child is. Will he feel shame if he finds out that the pregnancy he wanted her to abort because he does not want to take care of another man’s child is actually his? Lanre wondered.
“Lanre! Are you listening to me at all?” K asked Lanre. It turns out he was saying something but Lanre was busy thinking. Lanre asked him if what he was saying was going to help her. He did not answer. He was not exactly expecting such a question.
“I thought as much. Let me go”. She said flickering her eyes down to her arms which K was holding and then she looked at his face. He sighed. He told her that was the problem he has decided not to let go. Lanre tried to force her arms out of his grip but her efforts were fruitless.
“I do not like you nor am I going anywhere. I have my own life to live here in Nigeria. Besides, Christian is over a million better the you. I would rather be with him than spend a day with you”. Lanre said.
“But you already spent an entire weekend with me”. K said. His voice suddenly sounding down. It was as though he was poured a bucket of ice. Lanre told him it was in the past and that she was foolish.
“Then stay foolish! If you do not want to abort the child, fine! I will try to act like it’s father to please you. But don’t ever compare me to Christian or any other guy. I’m not them”. K said. Lanre told him that indeed he was not. It sounded sarcastic but K ignored her. He loosened his grip on her and dropped a kiss on her cheek. Then he starts up the car. He asked Lanre to put on her seat belt.
“Will I be paying you back the money? Let me remind you Kehinde. You already sent me five million naira telling me to use it wisely. You told me that day to wait for you. But then it was the money you sent to my account asking me to move on with it. You raised my hopes up and dashed it against the wall. You never showed up”. Lanre said to K. She looked at him with a pained filled eye.
