Doing So Much To Defend Her

Christian looked at Governor Adewale with a face evidently saying he was stupefied. If Governor Adewale was actually his uncle, why has it been kept from him for a long time? Why is he only finding out that K is also his cousin aside being his friend. And that by implication, K was his brother and Temitope was his sister.

Christian shook his head. He realised he was beginning to lose sight of what actually brought him.

“Well, I do not know what information you got. But I can assure you it is the wrong one. Lanre is not your enemy. In fact, she has been looking for a way to expose senator Ojo for his evil deed. She is rather doing this for K’s sake since his father is the current Governor and would be coming out for the next election as a candidate. Lanre knows a lot of things and has a lot of evidence against senator Ojo. She is profitable to you and your family Sir. This was the challenge she gave herself to be able to gain yours and Aunty Olasile’s approval to be the wife of Kehinde. The guy that was mistaken for Ify’s boyfriend was the friend helping Lanre pile up her evidence against Senator Ojo”. Christian said to Governor Adewale.

“I see you are doing so much to defend her. How will you explain the liberty she has been enjoying even as an ordinary citizen, something she could not possibly have?” Governor Adewale asked Christian. Christian told him that Lanre was pretending to work for senator Ojo. She had blackmailed him and was actually using him. He explained to the Governor that it was the only way Lanre could survive. She had to blackmail him to be able to use him and pretend to work for him in order to gain his trust. That way, he would think as long as he is keeping his side of the bargain, Lanre will not have him exposed.

The Governor asked Christian if Lanre was also pretending to work for his wife in order to feed his enemies with information or it was just to earn the enemy’s trust. Christian told him Lanre never worked for Olasile following senator Ojo’s instruction. But that she decided to do that herself so as to gain Olasile’s trust and make the woman love her. This was so that it could be easy for Olasile to accept her if she finally gets to win K over. And if it turns out she was not winning, she would have looked for a way to make Olasile talk K into marrying her.

Governor Adewale, K’s father looked at Christian whilst searching for lies in his words. But he could not see any.

“If I find out you are only doing this to protect her and not telling the truth. That day I will take it that Eniola never had a son”. Governor Adewale said. Then he told Christian to leave. Christian told him he could trust him and left.
