Christian stood at his balcony with his hands in his pockets. Tears streaming down his eyes. He was full of regrets. Regrets that he kept trying to take things slowly with Lanre. Regrets that he ever got to listen to K’s father, that he ever got to fake things and not reveal his true feelings. He blew into the empty space, air of grief. Grief because he knew Lanre would never be his. Not after K was trying hard to keep her. Not when K finally got to know that he is responsible for her pregnancy.
“Lanre, I hope you will be fine ni matter what. You are the weakest person I know with the strongest attitude. I bet no one else will ever get to know how weak you are”. He said. He took a deep breath and went back into his room leaving the balcony.
“Sir, your food is ready”. His maid said to him. It seems she has been waiting for him to leave the balcony. Perhaps she did not want to disturb his quiet.
Christian told her to clear the table. He told her he was not going to eat. Then he asked her to leave. He locked the door after her and went to lie down on his bed. He has not been going to work for days now. Neither has he been taking business calls. Even when his father called, he had ignored his call as well. After the day Lanre had called him to meet her at her workplace, and K had come to take her away, He felt like he has no hope with Lanre anymore. What hurt him more was the kiss. He felt bad that he has not called since that day to check on Lanre, but he could not do that. He lacked the courage to do that. He was still mourning his broken heart.
Christian was still laying on the bed when he heard a knock on the door. He thought it was the maid. He told her to go away and that he does not need her service.
“Chris, open this door. It is Kehinde”. A voice that did sound like that of K came from the outside the room. Christian gritted his teeth. His face was rock hard. It was somebody he did not want to see. But K kept banging the door for Christian to open.
“Ayodele Christian, open the door now!” K ordered. Christian got up from the bed and dragged his way down to the door. He opened the door and let’s K in.
“What do you want?” Christian asked K.
“Why do I keep getting this shitty question from you and Lanre?” K asked Christian.
“Maybe because she realised she deserves better than you. What do you want?” Christian asked K for the second time.
“You do not look too good Chris? What’s up with you?” K asked Christian. But Christian would rather not share his problem with K. To him K was his problem. Who shares his problem with his problem?
