Not Yet

“Don’t you think we should focus on making the nation better, at least their will be less selfish tendency. No greed heavy enough to cripple the nation”. Lanre said. K told her that she still cannot lift the country by herself. She told him she was not trying to lift the country.

“At least not yet! I am smart enough to proffer solutions to our problems. Even if not all. I will team up with people of same interest”. Lanre said.

“One day, the fallen eagle will soar again”. Lanre said yet again. K told her they should talk about something else. He knew of they continue, they will end up arguing and then she would ask him to leave again, just as she used to.

Lanre knew K was not in support of her. And he was probably not comfortable with her talks. Perhaps it is because his father is also corrupt. Or maybe because he has a good life, “money”, he feels there is no need meddling with anything that has to do with standing up against politicians and all those evil business tycoons.

“Of course we should not discuss that any further. Let’s just kiss and sleep”. Lanre said to K. He hugged her closer to himself. He asked her to shut her eyes and that he would make sure she’s asleep before he leaves.

“I know I hate you for your cowardice, but stay with me tonight. You can leave in the morning”. Lanre said. K gritted his teeth. He wanted to be angry for what she said. But he decided to let it slide.

She snuggled into him as though there was anymore space that she could fit in in his body.

“Alright! I won’t leave! I will let you sleep in my arms through the night. I will take care of you and our baby”. K said. Lanre smiled. For her, at this moment, that was enough. Having K by her side.

The following morning, K left early as he had to go to work. He was trying to make sure they rush things at the site. He was not going to be the one in charge of giving out the houses in the estate, so once his work was done, he would be out of the country with Lanre, his wife to be.

Lanre woke up to meet an empty bed. She rushed out of bed, going straight out of the room. She could not find K. She checked but their was no K, only Eno in the dinning having breakfast with her uniform on.

“Happy new month aunty Lanre!” Eno said. Lanre asked her if she was okay or she was just saying nonsense with her mouth.

“Aunty Lanre? Are you still sleeping in yesterday? We are in a new day and a new month. Today is Monday and it’s a new month”. Eno said to Lanre. Then she told Lanre K left very early.

“He said you should check your phone when you wake up”. Eno said to her.
