She Was Talking To Herself

“Aunty Lanre! Aunty Lanre!” Eno tried to hold Lanre and prevent her from falling, but Lanre ended up landing on the floor. Luckily her head didn’t reach the floor first. Eno had to call someone for help. She prayed K has not gone far even though it has been quite a long time since he left. She did not think of calling Tega who could possibly be on his way coming already. She did not think of calling Christian who no longer visits. It was K she called.

She told him Lanre has blacked out and she was currently on the floor. Before she could say anything further, K who was already close to the site took a turn immediately he got to the nearest U-turn. He increased his speed so he could get to Lanre fast enough. He called the doctor he had taken Lanre to when he wanted to check if the baby was okay. He asked the doctor to get his hospital ready and that he was bringing in his woman.

When K got to Lanre’s place, Eno was a crying mess. The first thing K did was to check if Lanre was still breathing. He picked her up after that, knowing she was still very much okay. He puts her in his car. Eno joined them. And then he zoomed off to the hospital.

It was after they got to the hospital and Lanre has been admitted that K remembered to ask Eno what happened.

“She woke up this morning and came out of her room. She was searching for you. I wished her a happy new month. And then I passed your message to her”. Eno said sobbing. As she took a pause, K asked her to continue.

“She went back into her room. I don’t know, she started talking to herself. Then she called my name. I went to meet her. But I doubt she could see me because she kept screaming my name”. Eno said.

“After that?” K asked.

“She blacked out! She was saying something about the month not being the month we were supposed to be in”. Eno said. K sighed. He rubbed his palm over his face. He felt guilty for leaving. Perhaps if he was around this would not have happened.

But how far can he tell that it would not have happened. He does not even know what went wrong with her. The doctor’s are yet to find anything. It was not a case relating to her pregnancy, so the appropriate department has been given the case, neurological department. But they were yet to tell him what was wrong with her.

He went to sit down next to her and took her hand in his hand. He squeezed tightly and then kissed the back of her palm. For hours he sat down there. Tega had come to take Eno back home from the hospital. So it was now just Lanre and K in the ward as he waited patiently for her to regain consciousness.
