Later that day, Lanre indeed visited the toilet. So she got discharged the following day. She had to leave the hospital in a wheelchair as she was still not strong enough to walk on her own. She had a lot of scars on her body, but it was the least thing K could care about. As for Lanre she was yet to notice them.
When they got to the house, that was when Lanre realised that they were indeed no longer in Nigeria. She asked K a lot of questions refusing to sleep when he insisted for her to sleep. So he had to tell her everything. But he was careful not to tell him that day that Tega was dead. He skipped 6he question when she asked if he was okay. He acted as though he had forgotten something important. He told her he will get back to her once he is done. He asked her to rest well. Then he left her in their room.
Lanre tried to stand up from the bed. She wanted to stand on her feet after K has left. It was difficult. Her legs were wobbly. It has not been in use for the past one year, so it was expected. She had to lay back down on the bed. She closed her eyes willing sleep to come, but she could not even sleep. How could she? When that was all she did for over a year.
She began to wonder if Sharon and the rest of them at LANs Beauty Parlour were able to run the place in her absence. She would go back to Nigeria once she was better and strong enough to do so. So she thought. K was yet to tell her that her dead was faked. He only told her they had move her over to London for treatment. He was yet to tell her a lot of things.
“Aunty Lanre!” Eno called out almost in whipers. Lanre smiled at her. She told Eno to come in. Eno sat on the bed, right next to Lanre.
“I missed you! I cried a lot when they said you were dead. They refused me from going to your burial. Then uncle broughte to London. He said we were coming to see you. That was when I realised that they faked your death”. Eno said to Lanre. Lanre was confused. But she felt it would be wise if she remains quiet and listen to Eno.
“I am so happy that you are alive and that baby survived as well. May uncle Tega’s soul rest in peace”. Eno said. She sighed and wiped away imaginary tears from her face.
“Aunty Lanre, Greatness has finished his apprenticeship as a fashion designer. Uncle K already sent money for him to open a place. He said he will work under his boss for a while before he opens his own fashion store”. Eno said feeling excited. Lanre nods her head. At least Greatness was being taken care of by K.
Lanre was feeling bitter because of Tega’s death. She asked Eno to excuse her for a while. Eno asked her if she needed anything. She told Eno she was fine and just wanted to be alone for a while. So Eno left.
Lanre began to recall K’s warning. If only she had listened to him that day, maybe Tega would still be alive. She cried. She cried for Tega who was no less of a family to her. She cried for her friend Ebube who she lost to death as well.
When K returned, she asked him to give her a cuddle. He climbed the bed and hugged her. He wrapped his legs around hers. He kissed her forehead.
“You will be fine!” He said to her when she told him she was sorry for not listening to him that day.
“You will be fine! Nobody is ever going to harm you again”. K said. Lanre clings to him as if for dear life.
“Can I go back to Nigeria once I get better? I need to meet with Tega’s family and apologise to them. I know you faked my death, but please can I go?” Lanre asked pleadingly.
“You can, when you are better”. He said to her.
“Thank you Kehinde!” Lanre said.
“I love you Lanre! I love you scatter”. He said. She smiled snuggling into him even more.
“Let’s get married once we go back. I still need to pay your bride price to your family”. K said.
“Sure! Let’s do that”. She said. They both laughed.
“Lanre!” K called. She hummed to indicate he has her attention.
“I want you to know that the people who did these things to you, no one got away. Not even my father”. K said.
“Shush! I want to sleep!” Lanre said.
“Your friend is here though! I went to pick her up from the airport. Yet to tell her you are here though”. K said.
“Ify? She will see my mother. Maybe she will see me tomorrow? Why is she here?” Lanre asked.
“She came to do her masters here in London. She needed a place to stay”. K told her. Lanre just said an “okay”. Then she told K they would meet the following day.
