She felt him lean in even more, her gaze went to his lips too. His breath to her face, but surprisingly, he had moved to her cheek, his face away from hers now and his hand reached for the seat belt.
He pulled it as it followed him. She immediately felt a rush of shame, but at the same time disappointment.
'if she despised him so much, why does he make her feel the way she feels?'
Her eyes lowered, now fixed on her knee and she did everything to prevent catching his gaze.
He moved the seat belt across her, clutching it to its other half, now holding her body together against the car seat.
It almost felt like he knew what he was doing, because why had he paused after clutching the seat belt? He paused, not as close as he was before but he was still close enough, and his gaze which she avoided still taunted her.
"You should always wear your seat belt," he said, his voice cold and firm.
"Sure," she said wearing her sarcasm suit and briefly bulging her both eyes.
He moved back to his position, reached for his suit jacket, fixed it, and rested back on the car chair. yes, and of course, he didn't put on his seat belt too.
They drove for about fifteen minutes before Dennis's phone rang, he answered and he seemed to be talking business with whoever was on the other side of the phone.
They soon pulled over by one of the buildings on Road 14, it was a mall. She didn't know what they were doing there, but she just sat waiting for Dennis as he was still on his business call.
Just briefly after the car pulled over, Sara had come to her side of the car and opened the door.
"Common, let's go," she said.
Joleen was lost, what was she saying? Where were they going? She thought it was a party, why was Sara taking her somewhere else? What was their business here? not even "their" but just hers, because it seemed it was just her presence that Sara needed, so, What was her business here?
"What?" She tilted her eyes and asked with a low questioning tone before she turned to Dennis wearing the same questioning tone. He was still on his call and posed undistractable. She returned her gaze to Sara who still stood there waiting for her.
"You thought you could go to a party dressed like this?" Sara asked sarcastically.
"My dressing is just fine," she responded in a defensive tone.
First of all, she knew her dress wasn't fit for where he said they were going, but she couldn't just let her talk down at her like that.
"It's not just any party, you need to fit in," Sara said in a not so intimidating tone this time.
"You wasting time," she added.
"And we don't have time to wait," she concluded.
Joleen took her gaze back to Dennis before she concluded to follow Sara.
Dennis had rounded off with his call, a business one. He sighed before freeing his suit.
