Chapter Seventy Four: gunfight and a little of Joleen.

She couldn't deny how she was feeling the whole time, she was restless, and she wanted something, but she was not sure what.

*** POV DENNIS ***

They returned to clear his table, though he didn't touch anything from what was served.

Dennis was enraged, he was fuming with rage. He got home that morning and his failure consumed him. He met Venus Cavri in London the day before. Yes, Cavri Venus, his friend turn enemy who orchestrated Theodore's death, who was fter him and his company. And have been for years.

He had been playing nice with Cavri for a long time now, but Cavri had sworn never to see him at peace or to see him flourish. He sent all sorts of attacks his way, he had ambushed him over the years, set his company up, he did everything and anything to see that he was a dead man.

Cavri used to have a soft spot in his heart, he was the only friend he ever had, while almost every other person were simply an acquaintance. So as of then, Cavri took every spot that friends were supposed to take in his life. He took him as family, they were family! But it all went down the hill the year Cavri's wife died. His madness started after she died. Dennis accepted the fate that they were never going back to becoming friends again, but he could never let Cavri taunt him from one mischief to another, year after year.

Last year he struck back for the first time, he took down his company's head office in the center of London. He only did this after Cavri had him ambushed and he barely made it out with his life. After that incident, he decided to let Cavri know that he could destroy him if he wanted to, he sent the message very vividly, but it seemed like Cavri's hatred for him had driven him mad, his hate for him had robbed him of the ability to think. After Dennis successfully put everything block of his company's head office down without any trace, not even one tiny bit, Cavri decided to go for easier targets like his allies, and maybe family, like Theodore. Theodore was for a fact friends with Cavri when the two they were still good. But after they fell out, since the family was the most important to the Waynes, Theodore broke every connection with Cavri.

A month ago, Cavri took Theodore's life, and that, he will never forgive. Cavri will surely pay! He will make him pay!

"Arggghhhhhh!" Dennis yelled, aggressively reaching the nearest object closer to him and tossing it to the other end.

"FUCK!" He screamed out, reaching to his table and tossing everything on it to the floor.

He had suddenly caught his reflection off the glass of the shelf in his room. His bandaged brows reminded him of how he had lost both Cavri and the hostage the night before.

Yes, they met yesterday after three years of not seeing each other.

Dennis's men had one of Cavri's men, which caught Cavri's attention and he called to make a deal in his exchange.

Yes, many might wonder what he might possibly want from Cavri, especially after everything. The thing is, he wanted nothing from him, Cavri had nothing that he wanted nor possessed anything that interested him, but he agreed to exchange Cavri's man for a sit and talk with Cavri. He wanted to give him the opportunity he never gave him, he wanted to give him an opportunity to defend himself, an opportunity to tell him to his face that he took Theodore's life.

But yeah, classic Cavri, he had agreed to meet him but. with other intentions in mind, intentions of killing him. Cavri was a coward, his regular quote was "it didn't matter how the work got so done, let it be done," he was a coward, who cut corners.

*** Yesterday in London ***

Cavri came with a mob, Dennis didn't see the need for that but he also understand that when watching your back, you have to do it right. Cavri stepped out of the car along with about ten other men in black suits and their guns clung to one of their hands though it was still pointing downward.

Dennis stood there with Sara and two of his men. He watched Cavri signal his men to take away their weapons which they did.

Cavri took two steps forward as Dennis could now see his face clearly, even in the dim lighting of the old way house.

Cavri still maintained his young Justin Bieber hair cut, it lay just on his brows and by the back just ended at his neck, with no particular style, just the typical British white boy's haircut. He wore his glasses, his whole life he had always needed to wear one. But he wondered why he hasn't felt the need to switch to a more in time shape of glasses instead of the small circular one. Cavri was just average in height, they met in Norway in secondary school, or like Americans would say high school. But in Norway it was secondary school. Cavri's parents were middle class so they obviously couldn't pay the school fees in the same secondary school as him. But that wasn't the case because Cavri was a genius, he was brilliant so he attended the same school as him only on that merit, because he was on scholarship.

"Where is he?" Dennis heard Cavri call out.

"Just a little talk first, don't be shy, I won't bite," Dennis said mockingly as Cavri scoffed.

"Get to it then," Cavri said with a smile on his lips.

They were still a little distanced from each other, but close enough to hear each other.

It was a little amusing seeing Cavri living the life he is living now. He was never the type that one could think would end up with settling grievances with thugs. Dennis led him into this life, but now, it seemed like he found his lost self in this life because as each day passed, his hands became dirtier and dirtier.

Dennis scoffed. 'it's always the quiet nerds that end up doing the most. His inside mind said.

"You know, you have been doing a lot, for someone who can't even face me," Dennis said, taking a steps forward.

"At least my a lot is effective," Cavri said as the little smile on his face widened.

Dennis's gaze on Cavri grew intense, he knew what he meant by what he said.

'Effective in the sense that he successfully ended Theodore and that got to his nerves even though he tried to maintain his composure.

"You know I could end you at ease and whenever I wanted, but I know that you also know that within all this pretense and stunts, I know and you know that If I chose you dead anyway, I will get, and I will stop at nothing till I get you,"

"So, why haven't you," Cavri asked casually.

"Your life is not worth anything..." Dennis said accompanying his sentencewith a smile.

"look at you...

Alone, empty, without a family or someone who truly loves you,"

Dennis knew this was his weak point, he knew the little nerd in him was born out of lack of love. He knew this triggered him, and he wanted to remind him how he him but was the only one who had ever truly loved him.

He saw Cavri's look change, his aura weakened, his confidence vanishing in the thin air.

"If I took your life, it's a win for you. That means you are free from your misery, so no, I would prefer to create more misery for you, then maybe, after, I can flip a paper to see if it lands on ending you," Dennis spoke calmly and he knew Cavri absorbed every word he said.

"Dennis!" Sara called out his name, reminding him that he was going too far. Dennis was a man of action, and guess what? His tongue might even kill you before his action does of that.

But the thing is, not once did he lose himself there, he knew just how far he was going. Cavri deserved it all, Cavri has been damaged beyond repair, his back was entirely turned and the man he saw there could wipe a whole city just to get his revenge.

He took two more steps closer to him as his face showed no emotions.

"And I will make sure to end it with my bare hands because I can't waste a bullet on you," he said the last bit in an almost whisper but he was sure he heard him.

"ENOUGH!!" Venus Cavri screamed out. Dennis saw how much he had lost it, he saw how much his words created a new layer of hatred for him, but he would end him with all that hatred, but not today, because he already made a deal with him that he would deliver his man and let him walk untouched.

"WHERE IS HE?" he screamed but Dennis didn't seem to be moved.

After a good fifteen seconds, Dennis scoffed and then signaled his men to bring their hostage out.

Though it was really odd for Cavri to come all the way out just to rescue one man at the expense of losing his men or even his life was very suspecting. But he already had a deal with him so in as much as he would have loved to find out why that man was so important to him, he had to hand him over.

His men had the man cuffed, and as they left the man to walk to the other side. The hostage was now halfway to making it the Cavri when Dennis noticed Cavri's signal.

'yes, classic Cavri, tricky to a fault.

He swiftly pulled his gun and took down the man who was already on a quest to take him down but was just too slow with it. Sara must have noticed it too, because she started shooting almost the same time as her. He swiftly moved behind their SUV but kept shooting at them and so did Sara and his men.

A shootout had started, the both parties shot at each other, but Cavri's men were down in numbers because they were in the open.

Sara had been hit! "Shit," he let out. Sara was down, but alive, she was fully dragged behind their car, so she was okay for the time being.

Cavri didn't seize to be less Cavri even at this moment. He hopped on his black SUV ready to take off, to leave behind the chaos he started. Dennis had noticed he was waiting for their now released hostage to get to them so he could take off.

'Who was this guy and why was he so important to him?'

Since Cavri had broken their deal himself, he could do as he pleased now. Dennis aimed at the man's thighs, shooting him down. He needed him alive, he needed to know who he was and why Cavri needed him so bad.

Cavri's men that were left had hopped into their cars, ready to take off, but on seeing the man they came all the way there to rescue, two of them raced down and moved to assist the man. Dennis now revealed himself, leaving the back of his car, aiming and taking the two men down simultaneously while he moved towards the struggling man on the ground. Dennis knew Cavri was out of men, it was either just him and his driver left or just an extra man considering the number of bodies laying lifeless on the floor. Dennis reached the man who aimed for his face with his shoe. The hit his brow bridge with his shoe and attempted to flee. Fortunately for Dennis, it was just his brows bone that he hit, slightly citing his flesh. He grabbed the man by the waist, raising him off the ground, holding him still before him.

Two bullets were directed towards them which hit the man and he figured they were going for the man because of how accurately the bullet hit the man's chest.

He shielded himself with the now lifeless corps as he shot at the car and so did his men. The car fled with great speed and left their view.

Dennis dropped the man's lifeless corps, he gazed at the man laying lifeless on the ground as questions ran through his head.

"So they'd rather have him dead than let him take him?

Interesting," he added.

He touched his cut brow ridge which was now arching and noticed he was bleeding.

He wiped it off, turning around.

"FUCK!" He exclaimed.

He was glad Sara was only hit on the shoulder, so she just had a minor surgery and hopefully would be okay after a couple of days or weeks.

"Knock knock knock,"

His attention was now directed back to the presence by the knock on his door. He had already had lunch and his plates were already cleared, who the fuck was that!?

Whatever it is better be important," he muttered.

"Come in," he answered and in a few seconds, the door was opened, he stood by the shelf, shielding him from seeing the entrance of his room, he heard footsteps, light ones, so he figured it was a lady.

Just a couple of more steps till who it was revealed to his gaze.

It was Joleen. he wondered what she was doing here without him calling for her.

His eyes burned into her, his past anger surprisingly subsiding. She wore a light peach silky domestic wear, not his favorite, but it looked good on her.

"What are you doing here?" He asked with a calm steady tone and plain expression.

"Uh, I have been worried," she said with the softest and calming tone ever,"

Joleen saw the tiny band aid on his brow ridge and wondered what he was into when he was away. She believed he didn't just bump into something. Maybe he must have gotten into a scuffle, maybe another fight.

'was this his lifestyle?'

Was throwing punches his day to day activity? It was highly possible considering how many time he had almost choked her.

He scoffed, looking away from her,

but soon back to her.

"Worried? That I?" He asked.

First, Joleen might have been possessed with something, because like he asked, 'what was she doing there?' as if that wasn't enough, she told him that she was worried?'

"You asked that I meet you in your office yesterday, but you didn't return yesterday," she said.

She watched Dennis scoff again as he took his gaze downward.

"So after I didn't come back, you thought that I?...." He asked with a stern tone and expression, fully turning to her.

"I'm glad you are okay," she saw Dennis's gaze soften, but now she only felt embarrassed and foolish.

"Mmm," he let out as his gaze fixed on her in an intimidating manner that she was forced to take a break from looking at him.

"Since you are good, uhh... " Joleen finally took her gaze back to him but she still felt that heat from his eyes burn her.

"I should ehh, go..."

She added.

Dennis didn't say anything, he just watched her turn and made her way to the exit.

"Or you could help me change my band-aid?."
