Chapter 90

Mike was discharged from the hospital, he was so happy to have left there. He booked two rooms in the same hotel Olivia and Braid stayed one for himself, the other for Pat. Although, Pat's stay was just for a day, as she planned returning to Paris the next day. Mike was so happy, being that his secret wouldn't be known to anyone. By the time they got to the hotel, Brains had left and returned to Africa. Mike settled down in his room, the waiter had to transfer his luggages to the new room, Olivia handed the luggages to them, informing them about Mike so that when he comes for them, they would hand them over to him. She had in mind that Mike would come carry the luggages, she didn't know he would be lodging in the same place. When Mike was left alone, he felt relieved a little bit. He had wanted to reach out to the Company for an appointment for the inspection of the equipments his firm would be supplying, but on a second thought, he decided to rest for that day.  He had already made up his mind that he would make sure he rounded up whatever he was to do in the US as quickly as possible so he would return back to Africa, where he would feel very much at home and have a better thought on what to do. So he pulled off his clothes, went into the bathroom and had his shower. It was a very refreshing moment for him, as the water touched down from his head to all over his other part of the body. For the time he spent in the hospital, he hadn't felt the way he was feeling, it was more like he regained his freedom. When he came out from the bathroom, he changed into a pyjamas and lay down on his bed much more relaxed than when he came in. It didn't take long when he slept off.

The medical director came in later, he got into his office and was about settling down when the secretary brought the result sheet from the Lab to him. He didn't even sit down, as he went through it. Seeing that the result was positive, and having known the family in general and Olivia in particular as a spinster, he wouldn't know how to present the result to her. He thought for a while on how to go about it, he ended up with the resolve that on one hand the professional ethics most be prioritized, on the other hand, Olivia wasn't a kid anymore, she had got to an age that was even beyond responsibility. So he decided to give her the news the professional way. With that settled, he walked straight to her room.

Congratulations! Olivia you are pregnant. Came the directors voice.

Pregnant! Lucy thought, she felt there must be a mix up somewhere. This to her is a very bad news, she had never seen her with anyone aside Mike, so if this became truth finale, her dream and plan for Mike is shattered. She must find out what was happening. She excused herself from the room, walked to the garden section of the hospital specially built for relaxation. There she sat down quietly. She could hear the voice of the doctor re-echoing on her mind, "congratulations Olivia, you are pregnant." It was either Olivia had suspected her to have interest in Mike thereby taking in for him so he would solidify and seal their relationship, she thought. On a second thought, she recalled how she had walked out of the hospital and never saw him again, now that she was confirmed pregnant, what would she do, Lucy continued in her thought. She wished she could reverse the hands of time, she had opportunities while in Paris with Mike then, even when they were in the hotel in Africa, she would have seized that opportunity to get pregnant, but her entire mind was that he was married. This she had come to realize was not the true picture from what had played out within the time they were in the US. She could only wish for another opportunity. 

Olivia pretended not to hear what the doctor said, she looked at him as of to say ' I don't understand' this made the doctor to repeat himself again. He handed over the result to her and walked out of the room. Olivia was left alone, since Lucy went out almost immediately. She first thought of the reason why Lucy would have left, could it be that she wanted to give her privacy with the doctor as regards such news, or she wasn't happy that she was pregnant. She felt there was no need bothering about Lucy, rather she switched her thought to herself and the news. She never expected such news, at least not now, at the hospital in the US after the accident, when the doctor carried out series of tests, she had thought everything was included in the result, so she relaxed her mind. She knew her Mom would be happy with the news, but the Dad she wouldn't know, no matter how he might feel, the truth and reality was that she had got up to the age where she could take decisions as regards her life and be responsible of whatever the outcome would be. She had what it takes to take care of the baby financially assuming Mike doesn't come into the picture. Her mind went to Mike, she wouldn't tell him yet, he had to show that he was interested in the relationship and marriage, otherwise, she would keep the baby. 

When Brains arrived Africa, he was still in a moody state of mind, the fact that he would miss out on Olivia made things worst. He tried calling her again, this time, her phone rang but it wasn't picked, He sent a message to her immediately. The fact that the line went through and the message was delivered, somehow lightened his mood, as he sat up from the bed and poured himself a cup of drink. While he drank, he anxiously waited for a beep on his phone, signalling reply message. He had sent her message to know how she was fairing health wise, buy it was actually a means of keeping open the already existing line of communication. This he wouldn't want closed, because it would finally lead to the his expectation, when he would have an appointment with her and say his mind. While he was waiting, his phone rang. He quickly rushed the phone thinking Olivia was the one calling, to his disappointment, it was rather Lucymang. He allowed it to ring on while he drank, believing that she wouldn't call again which he knew was her style. To his surprise this time around, Lucymang called back. He couldn't help but pick the call, her voice came through clearly. She had been trying to reach him for long, after several visits to the house to see if he was back from the trip. From the way she sounded, Brains could tell she felt so bad. He apologized to her and told her he was back in town. The news made her happy, her mood was changed and from the change in her voice, Brains noticed it. She told him that she would be on her way in few minutes. Brains had wanted to refuse her the visit, but before he could figure out the best words to use, she had already dropped the call. He was not in the right frame of mind to receive any visitors for now, he thought not to talk of Lucymang. Hers would probably be a blunder on the making. He might show her a wrong attitude thereby sending her away and who knows, she might be his last resort. Having missed the opportunity to stop the visit, he had nothing else to do than to work on himself believing that things would go well. It was then that it got to him that he didn't buy anything for her while returning, it never crossed his mind. He knew how women take such things serious, he had to do something about it quickly. He rushed down the remaining drink, wore a shirt, took his car key and drove off to an American store in town where he would buy genuine American wears. It was while in the car that he thought of what he would buy, he decided to get a few clothings, foot wears and handbags. It didn't take long for him to arrive the shop, the handbag, necklace, wrist watch were not a problem, but the gown, other clothing, and the footwear was a little difficult. He had to use the picture he got from her Facebook account to estimate the sizes. He was able to make it back before her arrival.

 Lucymang left house very late, she cooked Brains favourite which she packaged in a food flask, she equally stopped over at a wine shop where she bought some bottles of wine. These were the reasons for her delay, which worked in Brains favour.
