Chapter 110

While Mike was having fun with the beautiful ladies, especially Cindy, he never knew that Olivia was almost drifting away from him. He was not aware he was a prospective father, neither did he know Olivia was in the valley of indecision. Kelly, Olivia and Mira finally arrived the eatery,  Chase, Alicia and Kellys driver were asked to join them inside but on their own table. Orders were placed, and while waiting for it, Kelly and Olivia had to do some catching ups. She was really anxious to know what might have caused the sudden cut off in communication between them. Kelly seemed to understand and had noticed her curiosity, he felt there was no need wasting her time. The waiter arrived with their orders, the other table were served, while Olivia Mira and Kelly had a bottle of wine which the waiter served in their glasses. While they sipped their drink, Kelly took the opportunity to talk to Olivia.

I know you are eager to hear my side of the story, Kelly said.

Yes I am, replied Olivia.

It's a long one, are you sure you have the time? He said 

I do, she replied.

He told her the story of his life. Kelly got to New Zealand safe, after a while his communication with Olivia stopped, his email and his social media handles were all blocked. He had no access to anyone including his family. He worked for a multinational company well known in oil and gas, estate, gold and other expensive and lucrative commodities. It happened that the only daughter who also works in the same regional office in New Zealand as the marketing manager, had interest in Kelly. She had shown some signs that made Kelly notice her, but he never wanted to have anything to do with her. Every effort from the lady to get his attention failed. Kelly would think about her whenever he got to his house, she was beautiful and very presentable. She was also intelligent and smart, she was rich and came from a wealthy family. One thing troubled Kelly, that being Olivia. He knew that he would disappoint Pauline on the way, he also could guess the implication of that on his job and person. 

Kelly was getting a lot of incentives that he knew were not merited, he  was once celebrated for pulling through a business that was worth over one billion dollars, the owner of the company, Pauline's Dad had to fly in from the United States for the event. That was when he was promoted to the post of deputy marketing manager under Pauline. His official residence was changed, he was asked to move into one of the buildings in the family estate and his apartment was directly opposite that of Pauline. Kelly recalled that during the event that led to his promotion, Pauline's Dad had referred to him as his son who puts in a selfless effort in protecting and promoting his father's business. He had taken it to be choice of word to appreciate and encourage him to do more. He never would have thought that the Man was aware or involved in the plans to get him tied with the daughter. That night, after the event, Kelly was asked for a dinner date by Pauline, he couldn't run away from it because she was his boss. On that date, Pauline opened up to him in her actions towards him. She asked him if he wasn't happy that things were getting rosy for him. As a young man, still single, his account was running in millions of dollars, he was using the greatest machine made by the best company in the world as his private car. His apartment was well furnished to even the toothpick in the house. She wanted to know why he wasn't ready to mingle with her, telling him, they could go clubbing together, go to the spa, to the gym and other places. All she needed was him by her side all the way, she told him she wasn't asking for much, he is a handsome man and every beautiful woman with her right sense would love to be seen around him. While she spoke, Kelly sipped his drink, he was busy processing all she was saying in his mind. He knew she was making sense, cos all she said were true. He hadn't unwind since he arrived the country, he had thought it the best way to avoid any relationship troubles as he hopefully wait for his planned proposal to Olivia. Little did he know that his staying off women was a disadvantage to him. It somehow made everyone in the office and the estate see him as a very responsible man thereby increasing the level of interest and the number of people showing such interest. When Pauline was done talking, all Kelly could ask were few questions, he wanted to know how some deals that he was celebrated in the office for came in. He also asked who pulled the deal. These Pauline provided the answers as she told him she pulled the deals ànd had it documented in his name. She told him that more of mouth watering deals were still in the pipeline and that all were on his name. 

At this point,Kelly knew he was in for a big show, it was clear to him that she wasn't joking after all. Whatever motivated her to do all these for him would also be there to pay him back if he dare mess up. He told himself that it was better to stay clear of her than involving himself and try pulling out along the line. The dinner date was an amazing one, and an eye opener to Kelly. He got home thinking of the next line of actions. One thing he noticed was that Pauline didn't ask him for relationship, directly even though he knew it was at the back of her mind. This to him shows that she had her senses intact as regards office ethics. 

Were all these happening while we were still in touch or after we had lost contact? Olivia asked.

We were still in touch, Kelly answered. 

You were the main reason why I wasn't showing interest towards her, if it were to be after we lost contact, I wouldn't be telling this story. I told you it is a long one, are you still ready to hear more?

I am all ears, Olivia responded.

The next day in the office after that evening date, Kelly got to the office, he had just sat down when he got a call on his intercom. He picked and the voice came in sweet and clear, she wanted to know how busy he was, when he told her he had just arrived his office, she apologized to him for calling that early, she finally told him they were going to one of their big client to close up a business and the time would be 11:00am. When Kelly looked at the clock on the wall, he had 1 hour 30 minutes to do whatever he had to before that time. 

When he finally came down to the lobby at the ground floor, there was a Rolls Royce phantom waiting, already Pauline was seated waiting, he rushed in and the driver moved. While in the car, she told him that she thought over the ways she handled most of those deals he got glory for, and felt he may not have liked it, so she decided that it was best she carried him along so he would feel he actually worked for it. Secondly, she bluntly told him that he shouldn't take her kind gestures and her efforts for granted as she wasn't ready to sow and someone else would reap. She promised him that she could go to the extreme on the opposite side of her. Kelly knew what that meant, he wasn't a small boy to misunderstand a threat when he hears one. That was the beginning of his troubles.

Olivia was so engrossed in the story that she didn't know when her phone rang, it was when Miras rang and she had answered her call, that Mira told her they had to leave, cos their Dad had arrived the airport. Olivia felt so bad, she knew the story had just begun. She had to ask Kelly when they were to see. Kelly told her he was still in town and that he wouldn't mind having another time with her the next day. They agreed to have launch the next day, with Olivia reminding him where he stopped in the story. Kelly asked the driver to take the two ladies home while he waited, Chase and Alicia followed behind as usual as the drove back to the house. They got home early enough to freshen up an even had a nap before their Dad arrived. As usual, the entire compound became filled with cars and security agents. They knew he wouldn't stay long before heading to his personal guest house. That was were he normally attend to visitors. Immediate he arrived, he walked to his apartment were he had a little meeting with his wife, by then Martha's also arrived. The twin and their aunt Mary moved to Mr and Mrs Harts apartment for a family discussion.
