Spellbound

Chapter forty-eight 

Instinctively, she bent down and poked her finger at it to know if it was real or not. When she touched it, she felt its firmness and knew then that it was really a pathway. She walked very slowly on it, careful not to walk with her whole weight. She was scared that it could turn out to be a swimming pool after all, if she reached midway. She reached the very beautiful golden gate and pressed a button there. She was immediately scanned by an AI device which detected nothing harmful in her. Anna was really shocked when the gate opened automatically after it was confirmed that she was harmless. 

The sight that she beheld as she entered swept her off her feet and she felt her legs weaken. The house looked like it was made of pure gold. The yellow lighting of the house accentuated this and Anna found herself hypnotized by the whole view. She could see a very big garden by the left side of the beautiful house which looked like a single storey of many storeys. There were distinct storeys in the house, yet they all formed one very beautiful storey. Anna could not explain it. At the far right of the house, she saw the garage of the house, which looked like a smaller building. From where she stood, she could see several cars and she swallowed, unable to believe her eyes.

There were green grasses and tall trees all around the house which made the whole view more captivating. Anna could not get enough of the house. She walked to the storey at the centre of the house, which had long and beautiful pillars.

She saw a doorbell and wondered if she should press it or text Mr Williams first that she was in his house. She decided to opt for the former. When she pressed it, the door clicked open and she was welcomed by a middle-aged man. 

"Who are you, ma'am and how may I help you?" He asked, showing his milky teeth.

"I'm Anna. Anna Houston, Mr Williams' assistant at work. This is Mr Alexander Williams' house. Right?" She asked.

"Yes, you are in the right place. Do you have an appointment with the master?" He asked and Anna was taken aback. An appointment? She thought. Why would he ask me if I have an appointment with Mr Williams at this time? Or did Mr Williams schedule appointments even at night? She wondered. If that was so, she wondered why. There couldn't be any client that would love to have meetings at night instead. Or could there be? She thought. 

"Er...I didn't fix an appointment with him," she said sadly, knowing that she'd probably be denied the chance to meet him.

"The master didn't mention that anyone would come to find him without an appointment. I'm afraid, you can't enter since he didn't give prior notice to us concerning you," he said, clutching the door.

Master? That was what he was called? Well, it sort of suits him considering his aura and all, she thought before she spoke. 

"The thing is, it's supposed to be a surprise visit," she said, hoping that he would let her in.

"I'm sorry, I'm afraid that there is nothing I can do for you, ma'am." 

"What if you place a call through to him and tell him that I'm right in front of the door?". She questioned.

"He specifically instructed that he does not want to be disturbed." 

Anna decided to dial his number but was surprised to find out that it was not going through. He'd probably put his cellphone off because he really didn't want to be disturbed. Anna looked dejected. She didn't want her hard work to be in vain- the food could not waste. Also, she'd added extra effort to looking pretty. It would be such a waste if he didn't get to have a glimpse of her. Most importantly, she wanted to apologize to him before the next day.

"Are you sure that there is really nothing at all that you can do? It's really important that I see him." She pleaded.

"I'm so sorry, ma'am," he said and was about to shut the door when a familiar deep masculine voice echoed from inside. Anna's heart suddenly churned as she heard it. She could hear her heartbeat so loud and clear and it felt like it would jump out any moment from now.

She heard his footsteps and her heart continued beating more rapidly. She became very nervous. When he came fully in view, Anna froze immediately and she became spellbound.
