Chapter one hundred and thirty-nine
When Davis was done explaining to Xander, his jaw dropped and his lips parted slightly in astonishment. Xander had no idea that Davis still rendered help to the hospital. He was one of those who'd tried to talk him out of leaving the medical practice to no avail. He knew how good Davis was, and how he was a great asset to the hospital he worked. It was as though he was a medical practitioner from birth.
"Look, I- I'm sorry man, I had no idea that you had an emergency. I was so distraught that I couldn't even think properly. Did the patient survive?"
"Sure, who is Davis Coleman again?" A self-satisfied smile appeared on his face and he flashed a grin at Xander.
"Does Kathryn know about this?" Xander let a few moments pass before asking this.
"She wouldn't listen to me, man. I know I did hurt her big time. I know how much of an asshole I am, and I deeply regret this. I just wish she'll give me a chance to explain myself." Davis heaved a deep sigh and ran his fingers along his stubble.
"How are you, man?" Xander fixed his gaze at him. He knew that Davis must be going through some shit inside.
"Man, I feel like a dead soul. I don't know how to deal with this." Davis shook his head and rolled his eyes, he let out a sigh and rested his hand on his head.
"It doesn't help matters that my parents wanna see Kathryn. Even Tracy, you know how giddy she can get when it comes to Kathryn and me. Now, I just wish they didn't know about us."
"This is some deep shit, man."
"Like hell, I know. I can't even do anything right." Davis answered immediately.
"I'll talk to Kathryn. Well, for one, I know that she can't stay mad at you forever. She's only sulking because of the pain you caused her. I'll try to get her to talk to you. And I hope this whole thing will serve as a reminder that you should always keep that dick of yours in your pants, well as long as you're with Kathryn. We both know that she isn't the kind that loves to share her man, especially when he's Davis Coleman."
"You aren't the type to lecture, Mr Alexander Williams. But since this is coming from you, I'd be a fool to not take it, especially since it comes once in a millennium. And most importantly, Kathryn wouldn't hesitate to chop my head off if it happens next time. But before then, I do hope that I'll get out of this mess."
"So, what's good, Xander? You weren't caught in the whole Kathryn and I's circle, were you?"
"You're sure as hell know that I was. It's a triangle and not a circle. Well, of course, with me in the middle. I'd have punched you damn hard till that face of yours bleeds if I wasn't wearing my patience badge today. Let's just say that today is your lucky day." Xander cocked his head at Davis and controlled his rocking chair, which swayed left and right.
"I'm jealous. I knew she wouldn't stay mad at you for long. By the way, you look somewhat different today. You're glowing differently."
Davis propped himself up with Xander's desk and leaned forward.
"Does this have anything to do with why I got lucky today?" The words came out as a whisper and Xander flinched.
"What do you mean, Davis Coleman? I have no idea about what you're saying."
"Hell yes, Alexander Williams, you have every idea about what I'm saying. So tell me, man. It's a woman, isn't it?"
"Geez Davis, you're beginning to sound like Kathryn."
"And I love the sound of that. Can't sound like anybody else but my Kat. So, who is she?" Davis sounded like an investigative journalist seeking to get to the root of a case.
"There's no 'she', Davis. We both know the kind of man Alexander Williams is." He pointedly gazed at Davis who looked warily at him.

Vanessa and Greg were getting along pretty well. She was beginning to become fond of him, especially because she'd come to know that he was a good man. He'd taken her out on a tour the previous day, she had even forgotten that it was getting late because she enjoyed every moment. If anything, she loved his company. He knew how to hold conversations damn well. Vanessa was a sucker for such men.
She didn't know when she asked yesterday if he'd like to go out on a date with her, she just found the words escaping her lips. It surprised her that she asked, but she was elated when he agreed.
