Chapter one hundred and sixty
Anna felt the need to protect Vanessa, she didn't want a repeat of what happened with Drake. She'd not scrutinized Drake when Vanessa started dating him, but she wasn't about to make the same mistake again. If she were in Vanessa's shoes, she was sure that Nes would have done the same for her.
"So, why Vanessa?" Anna asked Greg.
Greg glanced at Vanessa before looking back at Anna. "I think the right question should have been, 'why not Vanessa?'" Wanna know why?" Greg asked, not asking anyone in particular.
"It's because I can't see a reason at all why I wouldn't want Vanessa in my life." He took Vanessa's hand in his and planted kisses on them, watching Anna from the corner of his eyes.
All the while, Greg's focus was on Anna. It was as though all the answers to her questions were written all over her beautiful face. To Anna, Greg seemed like a very intelligent and smart kind of guy who seems like a perfect match for Vanessa's personality so well.
There was no question posited by Anna that Greg didn't give jaw-dropping answers to. At first, Anna couldn't even describe how she felt meeting him, but now, she was very certain that she liked him for Vanessa.

Xander still looked devastated, even though it was a new day. Truth is, he'd barely slept since the call he received the previous day when he left Anna in the kitchen, with the other maids. When he saw who the caller was, he'd frozen in his tracks. It had been such a long time since he heard from Maxwell Williams. In fact, to Xander, he was just as good as dead. He'd been so shocked to find out that his brother was the caller.
Both he and his brother were like antonyms. Even before his brother left town, they were always at loggerheads, especially because Xander was his father's favourite. That was one of the reasons why his brother hated him. He felt threatened by Xander, even though he's older. On several occasions, they would beat each other up to a pulp. Max always felt cheated, he always felt like Xander took everything away from him. Even back in school, Xander had been the very popular one, especially because of his looks. It wasn't as though Max was not good-looking, he had girls at his beckon and call, but just not like Xander. If the girls that trolled at his feet could be quantified side by side with Xander's, Max's was just ten per cent, while the other ninety per cent would be Xander's.
On an occasion, Max had accused Xander of stealing the only woman that he'd ever loved, who wanted Xander and not him. On that day, Xander had unexpectedly gotten his face hit by Max's fists.
Going out of the country was just an excuse Max cooked up to stay far away from Xander and the rest of the family. Even when he'd heard about the death of their father, he didn't show up to pay his last respects to his father. Maxwell felt entitled to all of Xander's achievements because he was the first child.
"Hey brother, how have you been faring? Do you miss me, Alexander Williams?" Xander had frozen in his tracks when he heard the unmistakable voice of his brother. His heart raced, it palpitated in his chest. His words got stuck in his throat for a moment or two. He lost composure. It however didn't last long because he was able to regain back his voice after a couple of minutes. Xander's jaw tightened in response.
"I just thought to know how my little brother is doing, and how he's been coping with the company since the unfortunate demise of Mr Williams." Xander knew that Max had where he was driving at.
"He was still a father to you," Xander said, getting a little irritated with Max. Max let out a burst of hysterical laughter through the phone and he sounded like the Devil himself. His voice was resounding.
"You make me laugh, Alexander." Max was one of the few people that called him Alexander. Most people called him by his first name, Xander and others call him by his surname, Williams.
"As far as I know, my father died many years back, so save me all of that bullshit, Alexander Williams. You must be happy, aren't you?" Xander's jaw tightened all the more, he was getting really infuriated at Max.
