Chapter one hundred and seventy-two
Jaden watched Anna with a puzzled face. The moment he awoke from sleep, he noticed a figure far ahead, at first he thought that it was probably an artwork. He was still drowsy, just head felt somewhat heavy. He also was not wearing his glasses, so he could barely see who it was. He moved closer to get a better view of the figure and his eyes widened when he saw that it moved. He became more surprised when he saw that it was Anna. Why was she trapped in a glass? He immediately snapped out of his drowsy state. He became fully aware of his surroundings.
"Anna! Jesus! Anna! Are you alright? How did you-" His hands were on the glass. He stopped talking because he noticed Anna's eyes, they were filled with a myriad of emotions. He could see pain, hurt, and regret. Was it regret? Why would she feel these? She couldn't possibly be thinking that he was responsible for this.
"I'm as surprised as you. I didn't do this." Could she hear him? Her eyes were searching his and he could see that they had become hazy with tears- tears which begged to be free from her socket.
"Believe me, Anna. I swear, I didn't do this. I was kidnapped just like you. Can you hear me, Anna?" Jaden asked, seeing that he didn't get any response at all from her.
"I know," Anna finally said after what seemed like an eternity to Jaden and he heaved a deep sigh of relief, his head drooping. He was so scared. Scared that she couldn't hear him. Scared because he thought that she believed that he could hurt her. Scared because he didn't want her to think the worst of him.
"Thank you for believing me, Anna. For a moment, I- I thought I had lost you. Just hang in there." Jaden said, looking around for anything he could use to break the glass. He however found nothing, except the chair he found himself. He ran ahead to grab the plastic chair, he ran back toward Anna and hit the chair on the glass, but saw that it was a lost cause.
Who would be dumb enough to imprison a prisoner and leave the keys in his cell? Their kidnapper was not dumb. There was no way he'd have left something he could use to break the glass. Left with no other option, Jaden thought of using his body to break it. He didn't know if it would work but it was worth the try.
"Hang in there, Anna. Alright?" Jaden took some steps back and ran with full force into the glass, but he found himself crashing on the floor. He repeated the process about five more times, but he ended up landing on the floor with his back, hurting himself. The glass was too hard to penetrate. It was in fact, impossible for him to leave a crack on the impenetrable tempered glass.
"Are you alright, Jaden?" Anna asked with concern. Her hands flew to her open lips, covering them. Jaden was still on the floor. He clutched his arm and winced in pain in a recoiling position.
"I- I'm alright," Jaden said, trying to get up from the hard floor, he staggered a little but finally regained his balance. He took quick steps toward Anna and ran his hands across the glass, his eyes were searching hers which were pink from tears.
"I'll see if I can try to get us out of here. Alright?" Anna nodded at him. She was glad that Jaden was with her. Somehow, she felt a little relieved. She felt like she was not alone. She was glad that she had someone whom she could at least talk to. Moreso, he wasn't just anyone, he was her friend, Jaden.
The windows in the room were high, it was impossible for him to reach there. Jaden could only wonder how they reached there in the first place. He ran toward the door and tried yanking it open, his efforts however turned futile. He banged the door impatiently and screamed for help, but he heard nothing but the echoes of his voice. The kidnapper was quite some schemer. Jaden lost his voice screaming for help, he retreated and went back to Anna, shaking his head. Anna knew the message he was passing across.
Jaden slumped on the hard floor in frustration, he was tired. Anna's voice drew his attention back and Jaden rose to a sitting position.
"How did you end up here?" Anna asked with curiosity. She'd been wondering if he was also kidnapped by her kidnapper. Did he get here before her or after her? Those questions had been running through her mind since.
Jaden rested his hands on his knee and crossed them both, drooping his head. He looked up at her eager eyes which peered at him.
