Chapter one hundred and ninety-six
Xander used a map to find his way to the location. They would have opted for a flight instead, but there was no nearby airport close to the place. It was a long drive from their location. All through the drive, Xander's mind was clouded with not just thoughts of Anna, but thoughts of his brother, the thoughts that the kidnapper could be his brother. His heart slammed hard in his chest at the thought of meeting his brother after such a long time. He'd never thought that he'd meet his brother like this. He retrieved his phone from his pocket and saw that he'd missed some calls. When he saw that it was Greg, he seethed. He wasn't in the mood to take any of his calls. He already knew what he would tell him. Greg often called him to ask if he'd found Anna and would further tell him to find her. Greg would often cry over the phone too, he never understood that man, to him, he was like a sissy. He would often tell him about how scared he was for Vanessa. Xander was tired of listening to him.
The road to the haunted house was rough and Xander found himself entering into potholes, Davis and Kathryn would often almost butt heads as a result. It was so awkward, especially to Kathryn, her body would often jerk, and she'd find her body touching his. Davis didn't say a word about it, he'd often ask her if she was okay instead and she'd reply by nodding.
"Or would you rather I hold you?" The moment Davis asked, he immediately wished that he hadn't asked, particularly because of the way Kathryn looked at him, he felt so stupid.
"I'm sorry. What was I thinking?" He mumbled and looked out of the window.
He was muttering under his breath about how much of an asshole he was for asking her that when he felt her head on his shoulder and he immediately went still, freezing on his seat. He averted his gaze to her and saw her hair sprawled on her slender shoulders. He could smell her cologne and he immediately felt his rod stir. He'd never understand how she could make him feel this way without doing anything at all, somehow his body knew her and it reacted to only her.
"Davis, hold me, please," her voice came out as a whisper. Oh! How could he resist that voice? He found himself immediately listening to her, and he gripped her firmly, bringing her face to his hard chest. Kathryn held his clothes firmly too, her face was buried in his chest and she inhaled his scent. Despite how wrong this seemed, it still felt somehow right. She knew that the moment was not right, but she couldn't help it.
It took a while for them to reach the haunted house and it was only when they reached there that Davis released his arms from Kathryn's body. It was then that she woke up, she'd been sleeping since she nuzzled in his chest. Davis hadn't minded at all, despite the ache he felt in his arms. He was willing to do that and even more for Kathryn. He wasn't sure if they would ever get back together. But, he was willing to be whatever and whoever she wanted him to be for her.
Xander looked at the map and checked the haunted house again, it was the same. It had an old gate that they had to climb over. It wasn't a big deal for Kathryn, she'd known how to climb since she was little. Davis was the last to jump down the gate. The house looked so old and scary, in fact. It looked as though it had been abandoned for years. It looked so deserted, there was no way one would think that there is anyone in the house. Xander had a gun which he took with him. He had to take it to prepare himself. He couldn't take chances. When they reached the door, he noticed that it wasn't opening. There was no way it would have been locked with a key. The keyhole was covered with rust. It could only be hard to open if there was someone inside, maybe the kidnapper or his men. He moved back and immediately ran into the door with full force and it opened. The moment they all entered the house, the stench of old woods, dead rats and several other smells filled the air. There were cobwebs in the house, the floor was dirty, the house looked really big inside and it had different compartments. They weren't even sure of where to go.
"Don't you think that one of us should keep watch?" Kathryn asked. But Davis and Xander agreed that it was better for them to all go together, especially because of the different compartments the house had so that they could find Anna more quickly.
Xander thought that splitting up would be a better idea. He knew that there was no way in the world he'll let Kathryn walk alone, so he paired her with Davis. He knew he would be fine alone. While Xander went to the door by the left, Davis and Kathryn went to the one by the right. Kathryn was a little nervous that she was with Davis, the moment they were alone, she found her heart racing. The room was darker than the other places they'd been. She was glad that they came prepared, they pulled out their torches and Kathryn found herself clutching Davis' strong arm, especially as she saw dry skulls hanging in the air.
