Chapter two hundred and forty-three
The days went by rather too quickly to Kathryn, particularly because she was going to meet the Colemans soon, well, minus Tracy, whom she'd seen severally. If only her parents weren't away from the country, she would have scheduled a meeting with Davis and them, so that she wouldn't be the only one getting nervous. She kept wondering what they would be like and what they would think of her even when Davis assured her that they were really friendly.
Kathryn informed her old classmates that she wouldn't be available for their reunion and she apologized for any inconvenience her absence would cause. She also promised to find a way to see those she was close to back in school.
Davis had dropped by at her place and had spent a good number of hours with her, but he had left a while ago to meet Xander. Kathryn chose to shop for groceries while awaiting the arrival of Davis' family. She had lots of food at home, but she still felt like going shopping. She would have asked Davis to come with her but she hadn't even decided on what she would do today before Davis left. She chose to go with her oldest maid, Fiona.
"Fiona, I'm a little nervous. Do you think Davis' family would like me? Davis keeps telling me not to worry, but, I just can't help it. I feel my heart pulsating anytime I think that they would be coming over. Maybe it would have been best if I was the one going there instead. At least, I wouldn't have to think that Davis' mom might not like the way my kitchen is designed." She blurted out and Fiona couldn't help but smile.
"I understand why you feel this way. It's normal to have these kinds of thoughts when you want to meet with the family of your fiance. Trust me, I was more nervous when I was going to meet Adrian's family. You're the tenth person I will be telling this to, Kathryn. I peed in my pants," Fiona whispered.
"What?" Kathryn's mouth went agape. She could almost not believe her ears.
"Quite unbelievable, right?"
"Were they that bad?" Kathryn found herself asking.
"His dad was a man in uniform. He was in the military. You could bet that a simple woman like me wouldn't find such a man so friendly for a father-in-law. Trust me when I say that his mum is worse, a professor of law. I had to learn some vocabulary and the rudiments of law. I thought that learning those were the hardest thing I had ever done in my life until I came face to face with them." Fiona explained.
"Alright, Fiona. This is getting scarier than I thought. I thought your story would make me feel better, apparently, I feel far from that. I can't guarantee that I wouldn't pee in my pants in the minute."
"I didn't mean to scare you, Kathryn. My case is different from yours. Besides, Adrian prepared my mind beforehand. So, I knew what to expect. But Davis assured you that his parents are sweet people. So, I think you shouldn't worry. Besides, it's a team of three and not two. In my case, there wasn't even a team because Adrian has to be the best mama's boy in the whole world. He couldn't stand up to his dad too. So, I was alone."
"Three?" Kathryn asked in confusion.
"Yeah, three. You, Davis and Tracy, Davis' sister. Maybe it would interest you to know that Adrian had an elder sister who hated my guts. But you're lucky, Kat. You have Tracy. She can't even imagine having someone else as her sister-in-law. She loves you that much. She takes you a sister."
"Now, that makes me feel better. Right, Tracy loves me. Davis would stand up for me too. I have nothing to worry about." Kathryn let out a deep breath to calm her nerves.
"Thank you for having my back, Fiona. I know that I might be a brat sometimes, but you never complain. You're always here when I need you. Thank you for staying faithful to me all these years. I love you." By this time, Kathryn had already pulled over at a very big supermarket. She hugged Fiona who welcomed her embrace and they both walked into the supermarket.
No sooner had they started shopping than Kathryn heard her name from behind and she looked back to know who was calling her.
"Louis Scott?" Kathryn said in disbelief.
"Christ! It's really you, Kathryn Williams? I never thought that I would see you again!" He met Kathryn and pulled her in for a very tight embrace.
"Oh my God! I never thought that I would see you again, Louis. What are you doing here? I thought that you would never come back to the city."
"Hello, ma'am. I'm Louis Scott." Louis said to Fiona, bowing his head slightly at her in deference.
"Is she your mother?" He asked Kathryn in a hushed tone.
