Double Nomination?

Every January, when people are discussing directors, what needs to be addressed at the same time is, of course, actors.

Over the past year, many movies were released, and the actors have naturally given their best performances. People will comment on their performance level one by one at this time.

Levi shot Lost in Translation, which was for Theron. Therefore, he is more concerned about Theron's evaluation than how much he is praised. Although he was very confident in his ability, Levi did not think that he would be able to win without any pressure.

There are a lot of good films this year - Gladiator, Erin Brockovich, The Departed, Lost in Translation, Traffic, Pollock, Chocolat, Requiem for a Dream, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon... It can be said to be a very productive year.

There are also many outstanding actors this year.

As for male actors, Russell Crowe in Gladiator played two completely different characters than when he won Best Actor last year. And Tom Hanks in Cast Away was still in his prime and gave one of his most exciting performances, holding up a show all by himself. Everyone highly regards the two male protagonists of The Departed and Ed Harris of Pollack.

The same goes for actresses.

Of course, Julia Roberts goes without saying. Her popularity in the United States far exceeds that of any female star, and her current popularity is amazing. Among other actors, Juliette Binoche and Judi Dench are also extremely outstanding actors, so there is no need to worry about their acting skills.

With so many people competing, it is not easy to win. So, in the face of the current media commentary, Levi is also looking to comment on Theron.

"Nick, you don't have to worry so much. This year's awards season belongs to us."

Alexander didn't care about Levi's worries. Levi is busy with movies these days, but it was Alexander who was always in contact with the media.

Alexander was familiar with these.

After the movie was released, people's evaluation of the two actors in the film was quite good.

Bill Murray has always been a comedian, and this time, he was able to star in a movie like this, and he did a good job. It has already been highly praised.

Although Theron doesn't seem to have a significant breakthrough in playing a young woman, such a movie itself wins with details and emotion, and she can express emotions in the film. This is not easy.

"Charlize did a good job, and the media's evaluation of her is not bad. If she were to compete for the best actress, she probably wouldn't be able to win, but it is very likely for the supporting actress.

In this year's movies, the competition for supporting actresses is not fierce. Movies like Almost Famous and Billy Elliot don't really test acting skills, so Judi Dench's Chocolat is still somewhat competitive. This competition is not particularly intense."

Alexander's words dispelled Levi's doubts, indeed. The competition for best supporting actress has not been particularly fierce in the past few years.

Compared with the competition for best actresses, the competition for supporting actresses is much lighter, and this year's competitors are also much weaker.

Lost in Translation's performance is much more delicate compared to movies such as musicals that do not require too much inner emotional expression.

This time, the only one who is more decent is Judi Dench. But first of all, she won an Oscar, and secondly, the supporting actress Oscar has always had the habit of promoting young people. And this time, maybe Theron can really do it.

"We still need to give more publicity. Theron's publicity company is also quite good. If we work with them, the effect will be better. Don't be too careless; I don't want to end up without even getting this award."

Levi gave instructions, but it only made Alexander laugh, "You worry too much. There is no need to consider these at all. Didn't I say this year's awards season belongs to us?"

"How?" Levi was a little puzzled.

"That is to say, throughout this year's awards season, we are the ones who have received the most attention. Other media now need to beg us. If they can interview you now, that would be great." Alexander's tone was a little excited, "Your worries are nothing like that of a director who is about to receive double nominations."

"Double nomination?" Although he had some expectations, Levi was still surprised when Alexander said this.

The so-called double nomination naturally refers to one person's two films being nominated at the same time. This is a very difficult thing.

First of all, film shooting takes a long time, and it is difficult to shoot two films in one year. Secondly, the fierce film competition makes it difficult for one person to get too much recognition.

In many people's eyes, getting double nominations is almost impossible.

However, there are two directors this year who are likely to receive double nominations. Levi and Soderbergh both filmed two films in one year. However, Soderbergh's first film was filmed the year before and was only released in the previous year. In comparison, the filming time for Levi's film was much shorter.

"Yes, it's a double nomination. It seems incredible?" Alexander asked.

Levi shook his head and said nothing. It would be a lie to say that he had not thought about it this way, but he did not expect it to happen so soon.

"Then, let me analyze it for you." Alexander laughed, "First of all, if there are five nominations, Gladiator will definitely be one - no matter whether the film is good or bad, with that investment, it will be there."

Levi nodded, not objecting to this.

Gladiator is a big investment, and although it's old-fashioned, it's still decent. A movie like this won't get bad reviews.

"Secondly, there is no need to talk about the movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, right? This movie must be the best foreign language film this year, but it is definitely impossible to become the best movie." Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is indeed undisputedly bound to win the Best Foreign Language Film - Ang Lee's directing and the cinematography level of the movie are both fantastic. As a foreign language film, its box office is also excellent. It is estimated that it will be nominated. As long as a foreign language film is nominated for the best film, it is inevitable to win the best foreign language film.

Moreover, among this year's foreign-language films, there were no films that could compete with it. Malena is quite good but not as good as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Therefore, this film will almost surely win the Best Foreign Language Film.

Counting this one and the Gladiator movie, there are already two movies.

"I estimate that Soderbergh will no longer be nominated for Best Picture this year for Erin Brockovich. Nominating two films at the same time can easily split the votes, which is dangerous.

The film Erin Brockovich hopes to win more; it should be nominated for Best Actress, Best Director, or Best Screenplay. If it is not nominated for Best Director, it will not take away votes from Traffic and attract more sympathy votes for Julia Roberts."

Soderbergh's situation is obviously not good. Because of Levi's strong competitiveness, he had to make a choice and abandon one of his two movies.

"But in this case, Traffic will definitely get a position. Traffic, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and Gladiator are the three movies. How can you be sure that the remaining two will be ours?" Levi asked rhetorically.

He didn't care about the possibility of splitting votes if he was double-nominated.

Compared with that trouble, the honor of being double nominated was more incredible. After all, the double nomination was a matter of pride, and he had already won an Oscar.

Why not have more fun?

Unlike Soderbergh, he has deeper capital and can play more willfully.

"Because the other ones are unlikely. Requiem for a Dream probably won't get much support." When talking about several competitors, Alexander first eliminated one, "Darren Aronofsky's movie is quite good, but it's a pity that there are plagiarized scenes in his movie. Because of this, the media will not support him."

Requiem for a Dream is a movie released in the summer. This movie is about drugs. The movie is indeed an excellent anti-drug movie that makes people break into cold sweats. It is a pity that this movie has several outstanding scenes, all of which are copied from the Japanese animated film "Perfect Blue."

Although after the incident, Darren repeatedly claimed that what he did was to pay tribute to Satoshi Kon and even compensated Kon with US$150,000, this kind of unobtrusive tribute was, to put it bluntly, plagiarism.

"What a pity. This is Darren's second time making a movie, right? He still lacks experience. Satoshi Kon's stuff is indeed classic, and it's normal to want to use it, but you shouldn't do it deliberately."

Levi sighed, but he didn't know what to say: Keep your word, learn from every experience, and do not make this mistake again when making movies in the future.

Darren will make Black Swan in the future, Nolan will make Inception in the future, and didn't they still use Satoshi Kon's stuff? But then they knew how to wipe their butts.

"In other movies, Pollack is not deep enough. It took Ed and Liz ten years, but the movie was still too boring and depressing. His talent lies in acting, not directing. The problem with the movie is not small."

Levi also nodded: Indeed, Ed Harris's performance in this movie is amazing, but his directing level can only make people sigh.

"And in the end, it's a comparison between Chocolat and your Lost in Translation," Alexander said. He didn't say The Departed because he knew very well that The Departed would definitely get a nomination. "The plot of Lost in Translation is not outstanding, but Chocolat's plot is already nearly outrageous. The two movies are similar in genre, so your movie is better in any case, right?"

Yes, if it was just compared with Chocolat, Levi was not worried. That movie was a bit too romantic, and it could be said that it was following the style of Emily.

Unfortunately, the movie had too many traces of commercial films, the director's skills were average, and both Binoche and Depp were too old to play the couple in this movie.

"None of these movies can compete with us. Since they are not good, why can't your movies get double nominations? This should be your honor!"
