Their Eternal Separation

Lying alone on the vast bed, the night felt exceptionally long to Liliana. She blinked her eyes a few times, unable to drift into sleep no matter how drowsy she was. The comforting and soft blanket wrapped her frame.

Liliana slept in the room next to Cassia's. Mrs. Sui stayed inside her mother's bedroom. There was a spare bed for the caretaker to use.

"I can't sleep."

Sighing softly, Liliana wandered her gaze to the wall opposite the bed. A metal clock with dainty branches of flowers was hung there. The silver needles were pointing to half-past two in the morning.

Enveloped in the silence of the night, Liliana recalled what happened in the library earlier. Her mind paused at the moment when she burst out crying.

Old Master Ding and Talia were swift to soothe her feelings. Liliana felt ashamed yet grateful at the same time. She quickly regained her composure, asking her granduncle to continue his story.
