Tonight Turned Out to be Good For Him

"...I'm sorry, really."

A chuckle escaped Lucas' lips upon hearing Liliana's apology. Lifting his chin, he tore his eyes from her right foot to her face. Guilt and worry darkened her countenance.

Liliana sat on a wooden bench in the garden while Lucas crouched opposite her, trying to check for any injuries. She held the hem of her long dress up to her knees.

Extending his left hand, Lucas gently stroked Liliana's face. His voice was low and soft, resembling the night breeze, "What are you sorry for, en? Did you think I misunderstood what happened earlier?"

Liliana drifted her eyes elsewhere, not daring to look at Lucas. She weakly uttered, "Well... you saw him holding me, so... He helped me when I almost fell before you came."

Trailing off, Liliana didn't finish the rest of her sentence. She was ashamed to recall the embarrassing moment that befell her just now.
